Frankly, I'm not so sure the media would act that way. Sports media tends to kiss the asses of ownership, despite occasionally printing a negative article. Yes, the fans would be enraged, but most will still eventually get behind the team and continue to be fans. It's how teams like the Jets have been able to be successful - at making money - despite being consistently unsuccessful.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on this, because I TOTALLY think the media will react in that way. Cimini, Mehta, that hack from the Post, and even those ass kissers from NJ Media will bash the Johnsons. There will be planes and billboards galore, fans will give up or sell their season tickets and seat licenses, and if they show up for games, they'll boo unmercifully or wear bags on their heads. If they don't, then they deserve what they get.
I'm basing my opinion of watching decades of this team fuck things up, and not caring less about the fans. I hope you're right, but until Gase is actually gone, I'll assume the Johnsons will again fuck this up.
Oh I assume the Johnsons will fuck it up if left to their own devices, but Douglas may tell them that if they don't allow him to hire the next HC and make the decisions that he's going to walk, that he's not going to put up with any more of their meddling and incompetence.
My guess is the fan reaction woud be so extreme & over the top, that as a supposed “neutral party” the media would indeed side w ownership.Because this fan base will simply lose their minds & all moral fiber on social media. It will be unpleasant & controversial for those on the outside. That said,it will not be able to be ignored. It’s something that will be a constant story & narrative.
He is...but he didn’t say that as an insider providing a scoop. The context was in the discussion with Steve Young when Young was saying TL should stay in school because the Jets don’t have a plan and Gase is the coach. Schefter was just kind of saying it like, “Well...let’s assume he’s not the coach next year”. That was the context...he was just saying what every normal fan would assume...that there’s no way he can POSSIBLY be retained because he sucks. but don’t kid yourself....the Johnsons ARE that stupid....
That's what truly has me scared to death. It would be the most cruel blow of all to Jets fans who have suffered for decades to finally have a great GM, a great first draft in place, have the first pick in the draft, and then it all get screwed up by the Johnsons refusing to fire Gase.
Over my years of Jet fandom I've learned to never underestimate the stupidity of this franchise. They will almost always do what is worst for their long term prospects when any big decision is made. It sounds insane to not fire Gase after this year but it was insane to let Mac ruin one more draft before firing him immediately after. Never underestimate the stupidity of the Johnson brothers.
yeah there's no chance, I dunno why people even entertain that possibility. Schefter reported this weeks ago. If that isn't strong enough evidence we could look at the 0-10 record
several posters have quoted this, but if you didn’t actually watch the Monday Night preview show where he said it, this is not what actually was “reported” I’m not saying he won’t be fired, but again, what Schefter DID say was in a back and forth conversation with Steve Young, where Young said Trevor should stay in school because the Jets have no plan and because Gase is the coach. Then Schefter answered him by saying “yeah but Gase won’t be the coach”.... kind of like saying ok I hear you, but what if he isn’t the coach, then would you still tell Trevor to stay in school? And he said it with a kind of laugh...like any of us fans would say that OF COURSE we wouldn’t keep him. I’m telling you, the vibe and tone was more of a conversational back and forth. It was definitely not a segment where Schefter was reporting on his contacts and insider info....he did not come out and say that his sources are telling him Gase will be fired. so I know people are pointing to this as a sign, but it really wasn’t said that way. It was more in the ebb and flow of a hypothetical conversation about Trevor declaring or staying in school. if Schefter actually reported about Gase being fired in another venue or in another segment or tweet or whatever, I don’t know about it, but it would definitely make me feel better. I want to believe it’s true, but like REVISion said, NEVER underestimate this franchise’s ability to make the wrong decision time and time again.
There is a chance! He is part of the solution as quoted by JD! Now personally, I would have fired him after we had miserable loss to bengals last year! BTW, Who skips Thanksgiving with mom? Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would say a total piece of shit, but then again I know a lot of people doing exactly that this year
