I remember that Philly preseason game. Man the line, particularly the tackles, were getting blown up on every play. McElroy showed great presence. He didn't seem to take off until it was clear the pocket was collapsing, and he often got real positive yardage. I know you can't make a career of that as an NFL Qb, but he looked good. One long play he overthrew the receiver a bit, who got bumped and might have drawn a flag. But McElroy sure showed arm strength on that pass. I notice by the join date of an unnamed McElroy hater here he's probably a Tebot. Ftr I would not expect Tebots to want to see McElroy in there.
I've come to the conclusion that McElroy is never going to get a start here. If Mark went down there would be hell to pay if they did not play Tebow, despite the fact the GMac is the better option. GMac can run the whole offense whereas Tim would be very limited in the number of plays where he can be effective I find it quite intriguing that Greg was explaining the play to our OC on Sunday. The kid is very smart and has the ability to read defenses, something it appear both Tim and Mark have difficulty with. I also find it so amusing that folks are so willing to give Tim a shot at starting, yet, think that GMac is a total waste of time.
An u know this how ? Not saying u r wrong or right but GMac was the only QB on the team to make the offense look decent. All this playing behind the third string line and running for his life in preseason. Just would like a look in live action against another team defense. Do you ever wonder what Pats fans thought when Brady became the only option. No, I am not saying GMac is another Brady, but he may turn out to be much better then Sanchez.
Brett Ratliff, Eric Ainge, and once upon a time Kellen Clemens.... Lets give them a shot, see what they got. Pennington/Favre/Sanchez isn't getting it done. These guys looked great in TC and the preseason. This guy is different from the other backups because of xxxx in college. I wonder if other fan bases swoon over their third string qbs like ours does.
Again, I would remind those who think so little of GMac, that they would not even want to take a look and want to closely associate him with guys like Ratcliff and others, one big difference. This kid play on one of the best college programs in the nation. While doing so he won a national title, playing within a pro style system. After four years of Mark and knowing full well the limits of Tebow's abilities under center ,to say he is the #3 QB is a joke. You just have to know that GMac understands and is capable of executing the whole offense that is in place now, without restrictions.
Folks, I'm in no way advocating putting in GMac right now, yet, at some point or if Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde continue at QB or becomes unable to play, I would prefer to start GMac over Tebow. An you can take it to the bank that in spite of an okay game in St. Louis the really Mark will return soon enough.
I'm seriously amused by how Gmac appears to school the others every time the cameras look in their direction, dissecting plays and reads with his pen tucked behind his ear. Sometimes even Sparano looks as if he's missed something that Gmac points out. Just reading from body language, the interaction between all of them tells that #14 is way sharper than the others, or he'd never climbed the hierarchy like he obviously already have and thus enabling him to even have an opinion they'd listen to, let alone agree with. I think it's pretty impressive watching a third stringer get full attention from the OC and "the pro" QBs. Fuck the payrolls and the politics, give the kid a chance.
You can recruit top 10 high school talent all day... but unless you can coach them up, they will remain top 10 'High School' talent. Nick Saban can coach and that is why Alabama will be playing in the BCS National Championship again this year.
Glad others are recognizing this, because it's important piece of who GMac COULD be. Even though he is not dressed, in many cases he seems so much more involved in the game then either our 1or 2 QB. As I have pointed out in other posts, you can always find QB's who can throw the ball a mile, finding one who can read defenses and know when, where and how to throw it to exploit that defense is alway a find. I will take brains over brawn every time, Mark has plenty of brawn but in four years has proven not the best of brains. All I would like to know is ,does GMac have the brains and enough arm to do a better job then Mark has shown for all these years.
Exactly! I believe that is all that most of us who are promoting McElroy wants to know. Can his knowledge of the game and ability to read defenses accomplish more for 'our' team then what Sanchez has shown. This is all about the Jets and what is best for the team. :jets:
Adam Schein brought up what I was thinking. If Tim has problems with his ribs why wasn't Greg McElroy activated? What would have happened if Mark got hurt?
The Jets coaches are punishing McElroy for calling out the locker room as ridiculous last season. It made Rex look bad.
