There are plenty of guys you've heard of on this D that don't show 1/10 of the aggressiveness Elam played with. Was he perfect? No. But at least Mangini is trying to integrate some other players into the rotation...because the starters blow.
Smith missed a tackle on Curtis' Touchdown last week, and Coleman is a huge liability in coverage. Why not give Elam a shot? He did a pretty good job today despite the missed tackle and penalty.
The missed hit on the Bengals runningback was because he was on a pure blitz, and he overpursued slightly, probably not expecting a run. That will come with more experience. I love how you say he sucks, when you just said you never heard of him before today and you brought up one play.
I'm just saying he is basically a no name. I didn't even know he was on the jets roster and how he could possibly earn a starting job over Coleman or Smith. Too risky of a move to start him IMO, and personally he didn't impress me today.
So was Tom Brady, till Mo Lewis collapsed Drew Bledsoes lung. On the missed tackle the RB made a great play, spinning away from the hit...Sometimes, you have to tip your cap to the other guy, and if the RB didnt see him, he would have gotten crushed, and you;d be calling him the next Ronnie Lott. I Like Coleman ok, but Eric Smith sucks, hard, and Elam was ok in there.
From what i understand, Elam was a decent Safety prospect who endured a rape charge while at Notre Dame. He was picked up early this season when Stucky went down. From what I have seen thus far, he actually tackled quite well. Sure he blew the blitz tackle, but that was actually a good spin move by Watson. In coverage he held his own, and actually played with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. I have not problem with him getting a look, and IMO he played well.
exactly, he at least provides good depth. And with his quickness, his ability to get away from blockers (that play on the screen just befor the halftime was awsome) and hard tackling, he should also be a good contributor at Special Teams.
I dunno bro... The only positives I saw out of him was that he plays with high energy/intensity... He was REALLY slow when it came to stepping up and making plays on passes deep over the middle.... On his run blitz, he was WAY overaggressive, never breaking down and turning what should have been a 1 or 2 yard loss into a decent gain... My main problem was how passive he was in pass coverage though.... The Bengals attacked the deep middle over and over, and Elam never even tried to make a play on a pass, he just sat back and waited for the WR to make a catch, and then hit him.... It was ugly
Abram Elam added some energy and swagger in the secondary i mean he had a missed tackle that would of forced a punt but atleast he ran threw there and almost made the play i mean thats more then everybody else on the D , we should give em another try next weekend, well see.
He's a heat-seeking missile. Though I saw 82 on Buffalo pancake him the one play I watched him. I had to leave the game early due to car issues, so I still haven't seen the long pass, but from what I gather, Elam was trying to make a play, and ran into Revis trying to play the ball when he should have tried to play the receiver.
Revis was in perfect position for the int. Evans made a good play to even get his hands on the ball. Then Elam knocked Revis out of the play (unintentionally).
Elam's been way overzealous in both of his starts... While I like his intensity, he needs to calm down so he can make plays and not overrun them, or, as was the most obvious case today, hit the wrong guys...
