The real question IMO is not should we keep AR at the helm, but who do we roll with. A stop gap that does nothing to steer this ship in the right direction is a waste of time. Carr, or Winston, or Cousins are definitely not better answers. This season went to shit not primarily because AR was mediocre btw, but because the CS was an absolute joke. The team was an un disciplined, penalty riddle machine with piss poor execution and zero offensive game plan. We need a complete new outlook from the top down. The three most important contributors for success, GM, HC and QB are all missing. No wonder we are where we are. To win everyone has to play as a team, not a collection of talent with different expectations.
To me Fields and Carr are the best options. Again, pickings are slim, but these guys made their teams better. People like to shit on Carr a lot, saying his stats are overinflated and point to the record. And he is actually rated #12 by QBR, #8 by PFF, and 101 passer rating. There seems to be a consensus statistically and analytically that Carr is good. Now, people would point to 5-5 Saints record as not a great one. But their record without Carr is 0-6. So, Carr made a massive difference for that team. And it is very possible he will be a FA as Saints may not want to pick up his option worth 40 mil. Remains to be seen of course, and not sure of the price, but he could be an option. Justin Fields also is pretty intriguing. Young guy who showed some flashes and did lead Pitts to 4-2 record before Russ took over and actually record % is a bit worse at 6-5. From QBR perspective does not qualify due to only having 6 games, but if he did he would be #22. On PFF #25. Passer rating 93. Has mobility as well and again, young, so maybe with a good offensive mind he could improve. So, to me these are the best option available. Others frankly are not even close.
Carr will not last five games without injury. His history is not good. I would take Field’s with an OC that knows how to leverage his strengths. Same as what Tampa did with Baker, and Seattle with Geno.
Neither are good options…Carr is always getting hurt so with our OL no thanks. Really don’t understand your love for Fields…I get the temptation to hope he becomes Lamar, but he’s not even close. He’s more Zach than Lamar, just with better running.
So who’s our QB in training camp? I don’t know what’s more idiotic. a) one last ride with AR and DA b) going into the season with Tyrod and loosing some the young core the following season IMO the defense this year has been the problem. they haven’t been anywhere’s near the unit they have been the past two years. The offense has been moving the ball between the 20’s, just not converting. Coming up short in critical situations. We’ve had idiot kicker issues that have bitten us as well. This team is 2-8 in one score games. we’re not far away, as crazy as it sounds. who knows what the brass at one Jets drive wants to do, but it’s usually the wrong move. * I was watching countdown this morning and Rex was pretty clear about his position with AR. Going to be hard to find a coach that wants him, but like I said….show me better options
Where is Carr's injury narrative coming from? He played 15+ games every year for 10 years, including all 17 last season. Yes this year he was injured some and only played 10 this year, but really if he were it is not a great idea to jump over 3 guys now that he is in his 30s, he could have played nearly all of this season as well. On Fields, again, pickings are slim. I do like the guy watching him since College. He is the only one available who can actually make something happen with poor OL. Passing seems to have gotten better as well and he is taking care of the ball much better - over last two years (19 starts) 21 TD and 10 picks, including 5-1 ratio this year. Rushed for almost a 1000 yards in that span too with 9 rushing TDs. And like I said proved he can lead to a solid record with a good team in Pitt. This is not to say the guy is Lamar, but pickings are slim and I don't really see anyone better available. And he is young also, only 25. I would be good with him, Taylor, and Travis this year assuming we can not get someone like Ward.
Rex was on the pregame show saying he doesn’t think Rodgers will be a Jet next year and talking about other options for Rodgers this is a guy who has spoken about coaching here. He knows the Jets are moving on
The Jets have the 9th worst offense in the league in terms of yards per game and points per game. So Idunno about that lol.
The only thing Woody Johnson responds to is embarrassment, and Rodgers embarrassed him. Even if it cost the Jets a trillion dollar dead cap charge, the guy would get cut or traded 100% of the time.
Brick has does 50 straight simulations in Madden and has figured out that bringing back AR next year is the best option.
I’d be all for bringing him back, if I didn’t believe there was a locker room issue(Garrett wanting leave , if he’s back), or if he didn’t give dirty looks to everyone else when he makes a mistake. He is still far better than anything we have had in a very long time at qb.
Can;t say that not knowing who the new coach/gm will be. Everything is in flux until they are in seat. At this point we have no one else and he's the best we had in a while.
I can really see it going either way depending how the next gm and coach evaluate the team’s chances next year. It seems like the biggest problem with this years team was coaching and a competent confident coach might want a season with AR/DA.
Maybe the only player that has a problem with him, is Garrett. Seems the rest of the offense is fine with Him. Maybe a lot of overblown media stories. Guess we will see what happens.
How long till the great AR goes into his annual darkness retreat and tells us if we are worthy of his holyness next year?
