Although Brady apparently tweeted confirming he is not coming back, for whatever is worth

I think it's pretty clear that we have some issues to address organizationally. I just don't think it has hit the decision-makers that this is the case yet. It will.

It's March. Just wait until the first week of July when Brady realizes he can still get somebody to pay him to extend his records.

Going after the best QB option doesn’t make one a genius.
And if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t make one an idiot for trying.

Based on where we are at, pursuing this was a must imo.

Here is the complete Murphy interview:

Packers president Mark Murphy spoke on Aaron Rodgers’ future during the telecast of the WIAA girls basketball state tournament at the Resch Center.

When asked if there was a scenario in which Rodgers is still the starting QB of the Packers in the 2023 season, Murphy responded:
Yeah, I mean, unless, if things don’t work out the way that we would want them. Yeah, he is obviously a great player.”

Murphy said more in a one-on-one interview with Action 2 Sports’ Adriana Torres.

“We are fortunate to have back-to-back hall of fame quarterbacks,” Murphy said. “It kind of happens in our game. Very few players play for only one team. Brett had a great career here. Aaron had a great career here. Regardless of what happens, Aaron will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will be in our hall of fame. We will bring him back and retire his number. But this is just one of the things that you go through as a team. We want to try to achieve something that is good for both Aaron and us.”

Murphy said the focus now is on “Trying to find what he wants and what we want and hopefully we can find a win-win situation.”

He also said, “It’s a situation where we wanted to help Aaron achieve what he wanted, as well as the Packers, and hopefully create a situation where it’s kind of a win for both sides.”

Murphy confirmed the Jets were given permission to talk with Rodgers.

“We did give them permission,” Murphy said. “But I really can’t get into the details and we are just really hopeful that we can reach a resolution that works not only for Aaron, but for us.”

As for when this will all get resolved? Murphy hopes for a conclusion soon.

“We’d love to have it resolved by the start of free agency,” Murphy said.

JD seems pretty smart to me. Not really seeing how the Pack are going to get over on him with this.

They are divorcing from Rodgers and the Jets obviously want him.

Seems like it's all up to Aaron right now, no?

If I had to guess Rodgers is trying to figure out how to get west of the Rockies. He probably is resigned to leaving Green Bay at this point but wants to maneuver to LV or LA. The Rams putting Stafford on the market all of a sudden might indicate they realized Rodgers was a possibility.

That said, it is hard to see the Rams making cap space for Rodgers. It's also hard to see how they actually get Stafford off the cap. His dead money is insanely high in even a trade scenario prior to June 1st.

You did declare that Rodgers was untradable. Remember that?

Apparently the jets are operating as if this is a done deal. Kinda scary.

The really scary thought is the Packers are just conducting a thought experiment in how to get Rodgers back to play for them next year with the minimum amount of drama in the process.

    1. Offer him the worst possible alternative in the not-been-to-the-playoffs in 13 years Jets. Seal the deal on that by letting him actually talk to Woody Johnson with 3 of his employees in tow.

    2. Casually imply that the Packers would take him back but would prefer to move on to Jordan Love.

    3. Watch Rodgers twist in the wind as nobody comes forward to rescue him from the Jets.

    4. profit when Rodgers returns to play QB for them next season without dragging his feet or doing any of the passive aggressive Rodger-ish stuff about retirement of recent years.

Mark Murphy might be playing 10-dimensional chess here while Rodgers is on the standard game board and the Jets are playing checkers.

Brad thinks the Packers are playing the long con. The loser is Jordan Love.

I just hope we don't act like the Panthers did with trading the Bears 1st pick.

I was shocked to see this also because Stafford's cap situation is really insane for this year prior to June 1st.
