So, what happens IF the Generational HoF QB says:" No thanks" ?

At this point he has no other known suitors, but he's still trying to decide. This feels like a guy getting drug towards the gallows.

Why do we always desperately rush into stupid QB decisions? Isn't that the real curse of Namath?

Not if winning Super Bowls is the goal. Derek Carr’s best year ever 4800 yards, 23 TD’s, 14 INTs. Rodgers at 39 with a busted thumb and one of the worst WR cores in the league- 3600 yards, 26 TD’s, 12 INT’s. Literally Rodgers worst season ever due to injury is still just as good as Carr’s best ever.

There's always that brain surgeon Lamar Jackson to fall back on.

We throw Lamar a quarter billion to play 12 games a season.

    Go Jets.

Either Carr or Rodgers would be a HUGE upgrade for us …

we let Carr sign with NO which to me is a sign that we think we can/will get Rodgers. Can’t say anything because that would be tampering up until now as we have permission to talk to him for GB, but I don’t think JD is a moron without a clue.

the wildcard is that Rodgers may change his mind…honestly I don’t love the will he/won’t he retire drama as I do think there is something to Parcells’ point of view that if you’re thinking of retiring then you’re already retired. A guy with the fire to compete doesn’t sit there and contemplate retirement…it’s like HELL NO I’m playing. So that worries me more than a bit.

but Rodgers puts us squarely in the playoff conversation and potentially deep playoff conversation…more so than Carr would.

I don’t like giving up our first rounder this year at all…I’d really push to make it conditional but we’ll see what happens.

if Rodgers decides to retire or stay in GB then we’re looking at the Garapolo, Brissett, Bridgewater, Dalton type guys…none of whom would excite the fanbase or sell tickets, so I’d have to think Woody would then push for Lamar, who I DO think would sell tickets.

whichever way this goes I think it gets resolved before free agency starts, because if Rodgers is out, JD will need to get someone in here through free agency most likely…so he needs to have this figured out

That was last year compared to Carr’s best season in the last 10 years. 2010 is probably the last time anyone had designs of Carr being anything more than he’s been, a very average uninspiring QB. Who ironically has a history of sulking and acting like a baby. More so than Rodgers ever had.

I don't remember if there was specifically a "recruiting trip", but IIRC the Jets gave Namath one of, if not the, highest contracts at that time. They "showed the love". When desired assets are in short supply, it's what you have to do.

That contract was $427,000. Today, that's tip money for a star QB.

As for Namath, it's likely the recruiting was done by Sonny Werblin, who knew how to court and sweet-talk stars. But I'll bet that the Jets reminded Namath that Weeb was the one who had rescued Unitas from the scrap heap (after the Steelers cut him) and turned him into a star.
