That I would absolutely love to see. If Maybin could learn to cover halfbacks or please god a TE he could be on the field at all times. Right now if he is on the field people know he is rushing the QB every time.
The DB's absolutely deserve a lot of credit, to be fair though, nobody else has been able to do what maybin is doing with those same DB's. At least not as consistently as Maybin has been getting there this year. Maybin deserves a lot of credit too. Hell, Rex deserves the most credit to be honest. He is implementing schemes to fit Maybin's strengths. We have a special coach.
Oddly enough Fatcessa was saying the same thing, (about a new type of hybrid player in that mold) the other day on the radio, except couldn't come up with Maybin...He was saying 'uh guy like Urhlacher but 20 pounds lighter' .
Let's not pat Rex on the back too hard..Afterall he allowed Maybin to be cut and on the street for a month. Jets still need 2 more (at least) athletic LBs (OLB & ILB)..
Come on NDmick, I agree with you almost always, but don't downplay Maybin this year. We have NO pass rush. None. Pace who is the closest player we have to a pass rusher and he has one sack less than Maybin despite getting 3 times the amount of snaps. There's nothing we can do about our pass rush this year and its seems possible that we won't be able to address it next year either. We need to give Maybin a long term contract now preferably.
I have been one of the few people on this board preaching just how good Maybin has been since the jump. Yes, he has his flaws but he is our best pass rusher plain and simple. He gets minimal playing time yet produces a ton, even if he doesnt get a sack he generates pressue.
I love what Maybin's doing but its hard to disagree with him. On every other team without our corners Maybin would not produce as much. Our main problem was even after our coverage was great and plays broke down we still never got to the QB. Now with Maybin we don't have any of those embarrassing ok its been over 10 seconds and we still can't sack the QB plays. Maybin is relentlessness and speed along with great coverage has been a recipe for success.
Although some has 3 times the amount of snaps doesn't necessarily mean he has three times the amount of opportunities. Additionally its a lot easier to come in fresh and rush the quarterback then playing 8 plays and defending the run before you try getting a sack. Ask JPP
im sold on him. the Bills are still paying him, and according to rotoworld: i would try to extend him a few years on the cheap.
