Yeah right. Steinbrenner let one of his career Yankee players walk to the cross-town rivals just for one extra year? Gimme a break.
To play devil's advocate, George probably thinks Girardi's playing catcher at this point. And Hank and Hal seem stupid enough to be capable of anything. Joking aside, he's probably staying with the Yanks for 4 years.
The idea wasn't that they could never get under the luxury tax. If you were going to pay ARod $30 mil per (he had only been counting as $17 mil the last couple of seasons), there was no way they'd be able to be under the luxury tax. Stark was right to assume luxury tax costs of ARod in his story.
Where'd you see this? This is EXACTLY what I was waiting hopefully to hear. If this rumor is true, it shows that this whole fiasco was the making of Boras, and not the wishes of ARod. I hope that if this all works out, people stop holding a supposed greedy attitude against Rodriguez. As I've said, the guy wants to win, and be part of history. It's not all about how much he can rip off a team for. (He knows damn well he's going to be richer than he needs to be, regardless of where he plays.)
We've been through that conversation before. (Not actually me, but I believe it was between JoeJet and Don.) There's a lot at stake for ARod if he fires Boras. If Alex returns to the Yankees though, don't be surprised if Boras has nothing at all to do with it. After that, who knows? Imagine the fallout if he did fire him though! Wow.
Here is a link to the report. I haven't seen it posted yet. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3109894
Nice! Like I said, that's what I've been waiting hopefully to hear. Pretty impressive that Alex went about it this way though. I thought the arbitration was where they'd come together to talk. Imagine bringing back the same team from last year, with a far better rotation, with a coach who believes in lighting fires under people's asses?
Well, well...maybe some good news finally on the Yankee front. It was not out of the realm of possibility in what my thoughts were. Alio and I both thought this was all Boras and not really Arod. This seems to bear that out. He can be a hero in NY now if he comes back without Boras and by making up the 21 million the Yankees lost to Texas.
You guys don't really believe that Alex all of a sudden just wants to be a Yankee and only a Yankee? This is Alex realizing that noone is going to give him the contract that he thought he could get and he can probably get the most from the Yanks and save some face. If he really wanted to be a Yankee he would never had opted out in the first place.
He'll be truly immortal if he returns and they win the World Series. It would be impossible to imagine if he hit a homer to seal it. hmy:
Unless he was fully convinced his superstar agent had it all worked out to force the Yankees' hand. Why would it be so hard to believe that Boras told Alex and Cynthia that there was no way the Yankees would let him walk, regardless of a "measly $21M"? Has no one ever received bad advice from someone they trust before? Alex has relied on Boras' advice for half of his life already. Plain and simple, I can only judge the man on what he's actually stated publicly, and that is that he wants to be a Yankee the rest of his career. Anything else is speculation and assumption.
Here is the link from the original Daily News story and it offers more insight and seems a lot more definitive that he will be back. "Alex is going to be back with the Yankees," the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been made public. "The Yankees don't have a choice. How are they going to compete without Alex? They need him back." How true ^ "He's upset over the way this whole thing has played out and the way he's being portrayed now, because of Boras." The intriguing question is who was the third party he approached them through? Another agent? A player? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...yankees_look_to_bring_arod_back__on_thei.html
He was asked who his closest friend is on the team on his web site. He said he's friends with everyone, but is probably closest to Mo. Coincidence? I think it's very interesting that the comment would be made about how Boras has made him look. If nothing else, the guy truly cares how he's perceived by the public.
I do believe Alex was given bad advice, I believe Boras told him he could get him 350 million on the open market. Now that he is realizing that not only could he not get anywhere close to that but the Yanks are his best deal he comes crawling back.
I'm not sure he couldn't get more then the 220 million/8 year deal the Yankees are offering but maybe he has had time to think about does he really want to be in LA? Would you?
