Actually, it's very possible one of the top CBs in the draft drops to the Jets. I'd much rather have Jenkins (trade up for him if he drops a bit), Davis, Smith, or Moore, than someone's retread.
Ron Bartell, Jabari Greer, Bryant McFadden, Kelvin Hayden, Dunta Robinson. All of these would make good #2 corners. Bartell and Greer are 2 of the most underrated CBs in the NFL.
Solid freakin post, largely because I happen to agree with most of it! LOL... Scott and Leonhard would be good reasonable signings, but I disagree on the CB we should draft. Vontae Davis coul well be there, and if we are to run the 46 D at all, another man cover corner is a must. Jones and Leon were great, but we need another all purpose back, similar to Jones. I like Donald Brown from UConn in the second round. Both the RB's (excepting Chatman) and the O line went injury free in 2008. Not likely to happen again. This draft is thin to say the least for 3-4 ILB's. I'd like to bolster the depth on the O line with a good run blocking guard to back up Faneca and Moore. I just finished drafting for the Jets at a FF site... these guys are pretty astute, and I took Herman Johnson, OG, who is an absolute road grader in the 3rd round. Kid weighed in at 382 for the Senior Bowl and carried that wieght. 36" arm span. 12" hands. They say if he gets a hand on you, you are out of the play. His pass blocking is an issue, but bring him in for Moore, get Mangold, Johnson and Woody blocking, then Tony Richardson lead blocking.... the Jets would be unstoppable in short yardage. For once, the Jets would be able to push the pile and control the line in short yardage. Set that up, and go play action... oh, to dream! We need depth on the O line and RB. Ryan is going to run, run, and run some more. Leftwich? Might be more like Griese, but I hear ya. A vet backup. BTW, Cleveland fans are NOT fans of Bodden, and obviously, neither were the Lions. I don't think he is the cover corner we need.
he had a 4 mill roster bonus and 8 mill salary , you think they'd rather get a better FA, he's still a decent cb
if jenkins slips to the packers pick i would love to trade up to grab him, hopefully we can get scott as a fa. even if favre does not retire tanny will make some moves to free up some cap space, and i do not think we really have that many holes to fill. sign scott, if jenkins falls trade up to get him, try out lowery at safety and hopefully ryan can make something out of gholston. hell knowing tanny even if favre decides to stay we'd maybe even be able to get someone like canty.
Those two and Bart Scott would be my dream FA class for this off-season. Moderately priced, fairly young vets. But I don't know where the Jets would get the $$ to sign them. Having Favre retire and letting Barrett go would help. Still some other players would probably have to restructure their deals. As to Bodden, guys don't always get cut because they suck. Sometimes it's a bad fit to the scheme or a big jump in their contract. For Boddent it was both. Bodden is a press coverage guy who struggled in Detroit's zone. And he was due a ton of money next season. He's a good player and would fit our need for a man #2 CB so Ryan can run an aggressive scheme (such as the 46).
We aren't drafting a CB in the first round..forget that idea. It would be as stupid as NE spending 20 million dollars a year on 2 QBs. It won't happen there and it won't happen here either where we would have 60-70 million tied up in CBs over the next few years.
I believe it means Jets Fan NYC. Also, someone mentioned we still have Chatman, but i think he's a FA.
i have no idea how these two can be locks!!! with 31 other teams and players thinking more about money than some fans thoughts of loyalty toward ryan, is lol.......
That is an awesome example. And by 'awesome' I mean a really shitty one. Ty Law was a good player who was losing his skills (skills which were pretty much negated by the 5-yard bump rule) and his stats benefited from playing on a crappy team. His garbage-time interceptions got him into the Pro Bowl along with his past reputation. Plus, he wasn't cut, his contract was in essence a 1 year contract.
CB is certainly a top need for the Jets, and a high pick should bring in someone with a good shot at starting, which will allow Ryan to better install his D. If the draft makes some prospects available when the Jets pick, that would be a good move. WR is also a top need - can it be filled in free agency? If Favre does not come back, the Jets will have to bring in a vet QB, I would think.
Yes he is. Barton cannot cover and makes no impact in the backfield. Scott is better at both of these key aspects of LB play.
Scott had 1 year with 100 tackles Barton had 5 Scott is overated he runs his mouth so he gets alot of pub but he is not that good. If we are not getting Dansby or Lewis just draft a new guy I dont want Scott he is not worth a big contract.
Holy crap when will the Pats draft paranoia end on this board? Who cares when they pick, be it before or after the Jets? Look what happened last year- they picked after us and landed the Defensive ROY- draft order does not matter... Nothing is a sure thing in the draft- especially the first round.
