Charles Rogers had 125 catches for 2551 yards (20+ yard avg) and 25 TD's in 2 years playing for Michigan St. He started his 1st 5 games as a rookie before getting hurt. In that time he had 22 catches for 243 yards and 3 TD's. He's never really had a chance since, starting only 4 more games under varying degrees of injury. In those 9 starts, he had 36 catches for 440 yards and 4 TD's. He has proven that he can play in the NFL when healthy. Is injury a concern? Of course. However, he's only 25, so I honestly believe on a real NFL team with a real NFL conditioning program, he may still have a chance to be a star.
Oh, and on a side note, there were plenty of people here that were praying he'd drop to the 4th pick, and wanted him more than Andre Johnson and Robertson. There's a reason he went 2nd overall, and it's because he is a freak. He did start 23 straight games at Michigan State without any injury problems.
Now that I hadn't heard, and would certainly be a cause for concern. Though again, we would have nothing invested long term in him, so screw up and *snip* he's history.
They should at least look into Rogers. I'm not saying they should go sign him right away, but the FO has got to at least give the guy a physical and see if he fits into our team. I never liked Charles Rogers, but he has way to much upside to not even consider looking into signing him.
If he's cheap, you'd be stupid not to atleast look into it. In the few games he's been healthy, he's produced (and this is with Joey Harrington at QB.) You have to have interest, of course health is a huge factor, but if he can manage to get it together and stay healthy, he's the second best WR on our team with the potential to be the #1.
seriously though guys, how can you say he hasnt performed and isnt good in the NFL when he hasnt had a chance nice post fenwyr he is definetly worth a look
he would be a nice pick-up...if he comes without a major price tag and stays healthy he can add tremedous talent to our WR's
I was one of those people that wanted to draft him, but what he did in the NCAA means nothing now. We all know the guy has a lot of talent, and maybe he is even a smart risk for a rebuilding team... but we have never really had a lot of luck with injuries, it just seems like we're asking for trouble if we sign this guy.
Work ethic and character have not been Roger's problem. Rather it has been injuries and a substance abuse issue. When he actually plays he is productive and I don't believe he has had any stand-offs w/ Detroit's CS, in the locker room or to the media. If he can stay healthy and get help w/ his "problem", he can develop into a great player.
