The Jets have a lot of young talent on this team, something we haven't had in years. And if it gels just right many ppl on here will be pleasantly surprised. Pats on the other hand, will not be happy.

I would rather have him than play against him, no doubt. But since we're forced to play against him it's fun to remember those games where his presence on the field meant nothing.

No argument there, I'm hoping that some weakness arise with the Pats defense but I think we're more likely to find weaknesses in their offense with our defense. Jets DL is scary, LBs are decent, secondary can be anywhere from great to average.

With Rex, I'm taking the over.

Very few would underestimate the Patriots propensity for winning the division at this point. History and past records would clearly indicate that unless proven otherwise they have always been the best in the AFC east. The reason for the Pats superiority has morphed some thru time, an imbalance of talent shifting from NE having superior teams to the rest of the division simply having inferior or right down awful teams, and poorly coached to boot. But through it all through one thing remained constant.
They have been blessed with a HOF QB while that could carry the team on his shoulders, while NY, Miami, and Buffalo have been searching desperately for just a capable QB to fill the position. A QB that given the opportunity would at least not loose the game and at best be instrumental in the win.

Having said that I don't think the gap between NE and the rest of the AFC is as wide as it use to be. Brady is still Brady, but as time moves forward now more than ever he needs a superior supporting cast. IMHO the Jets, Buffalo and Miami have improved their defenses with the aim to slow Brady down, and becoming a little more unpredictable if not explosive offensively.

I firmly believed times have changed. On any give Sunday any of the three could take one from the Pats. It will no longer be a "gimmie" for NE, with very little regard to game planning against them, only worrying about the likes of Denver, GB and Seattle as they push the weak AFC competition aside.
I think we will see a lot more parity this year in the AFC east. Would not be one bit surprised if the margin of separation between all of them is no more than 1-2 games max deep into the season with more than one team tied for first. It will be a matter of which team plays mistake free football down the stretch...and the health of the squad. I Like the Jets chances this year.

You know, I understand the theory behind bolded part, but why then year after year with Revis at his best Jets were beaten with short passes down the middle? And don't just put it on Gronk and Hernendez because this was the story against all opponents, not just NE so there were no dominant TEs required.
Seriously, is this because our safety sucked all this time?

As to the last paragraph... Again, we were not comparing NE matchups to any team in particular. The premise was that pass protection was NE's greatest weakness. It was run D. In other words it's about comparing their run vs their pass defense, irrelevant of the opponent.

That said, our OL is a question and NE's front might just be enough. Although with improved RBs particularly re catching ball out if the backfield I'm not so sure about it.

What does tight end receptions have to do with run defense? I thought that was what we were talking about. Now you're trying to say that Revis on the field doesn't improve every aspect of the defense, which I never argued. Seems like you are misdirecting the argument.

You were the one that brought up NE's average run yardage allowed stats. This includes division rivals that they play twice a year, and that factors in heavily to their average YPA allowed. That's why I brought up the Jets and Miami and I think it's a very relevant point. 4 games out of 16 can have a huge effect on a season average stat.

1st: if Revis = can use safety to do other things, then why when we had Revis those other things didn't include securing the middle?

2nd: fair point. NE's poor ypc was 4/16 times against div opponents, who ran more thus driving the stat up. Now that I understand what you meant, I agree.

It's a puzzle, and hard to figure out. Part of me wants to write it off as Rex's scheme, he was always more concerned with using that safety to rush the passer/attack the runner instead of using him to cover TE receptions, leaving that to LBs, but another part of me knows that Rex was in love with using two SS's to man the field and a guy like Eric F'ing Smith was utilized for more often in TE coverage than made sense.

It's a good question, though, and I don't have any definitive answer for it.

Too bad Revis wasn't a WR going over the middle. He could have been Pryor's first 'assignment'!

I don't think the Chiefs or Chargers will be back in the playoffs this year. It's wide open for the Jets, but I do think Raiders and Browns could come close.

The AFC East will be the most competitive division. We improved as did Buffalo and Miami. I could see three AFC East teams getting in.

The Raiders are not going to be good- they re-loaded their roster with another bunch of old and overpaid free agents, and they still don't have a quarterback. When you don't have a QB, you need to be good at other things, and the Raiders aren't.

The Browns will only go as far as Manziel can take them. There's just no way to know if he'll have a year like RG3's rookie year, but I don't think we can count on that. Usually rookie QBs struggle no matter how hard they work or how talented they are.

Manzielhh has a terrible work ethic (never watched tape except before one bowl game, and has always coasted by on his natural talent while doing only the minimum amount of work.) Maybe he will become a hard worker in the NFL, but it seems like that rarely happens. He reminds me of a young Michael Vick.

I think the Jets can make the playoffs, but it will be very difficult. Hopefully we'll get solid QB play.

Thats your opinion. Didn't say he was suppose to scare you but he's way ahead of a guy like Geno as far as development goes.

Going by division...in the West I'm not sure why some of you are counting out the Chiefs...or the Chargers for that matter. QB situations in both locations remains the same and the last time I checked Charles is still running the rock in KC. The Raiders will be the cellar dweller until they are certain they've ironed out their QB issues but I really like the Carr drafting. Obviously Denver is a lock as long as Manning is upright.

The South goes through Indianapolis, obviously, and the rest...meh. IF the Texans QB situation is basically average they could bounce back and be competitive with that defense. The Jags and Titans...I really don't view either of those teams in any type of playoff discussion.

North....all roads point to going through Cincinnati in my opinion. The Steelers have gotten old at QB. Is it just me or do others feel that way? Big Ben just feels like he has massively aged over the last 2 years. All the beatings he has taken, not to mention all the off field abuse, and he just hasn't seemed the same. The Ravens...let me tell you what...when they left Anquan Boldin hanging out to dry it's like Karma in that building left. They have looked disjointed and messed up since the SB win. As one poster mentioned, Cleveland will be as good as Johnny "Cleveland." I've seen some posts that Manziel has a horrible work ethic...but I'm not sure where that bull came from...the kid works his ass off...BUT, that's not going to be enough this year. I think they will be competitive but that's about it.

Last but not least the East. While I'm not ready to say N.E. is a "lock" to win it.........................again..........................they certainly are in the best position of any of the four. As long as Brady is healthy that is. Now that is something, going forward, that must be considered as he's no longer a spring chicken. The Jets, Bills and Fish will beat on each other for the 2nd spot...as usual. Both the Fish and the Jets will be be fantastic on the Defensive side but, as expected, the offense is a wait and see. The Bills are the real wild card. If Watkins comes in and is even remotely close to as good as he is projected to be....as a rookie...they are going to have some serious offense. All things considered, though, and everything falls the way they should it will essentially end in the same order the East did last year.

For as much as you can predict in freakin' May I'd say this is what I predict for the post season lineup out of the AFC:

    West - Broncos
    South - Indianapolis
    North - Cincinnati
    East - N.E.
    W.C. - New York & Kansas City

Patriots did go 12-4 .. Congrats.. But it was shakey.. and i seen us make Tom Brady look like shit both times (i was at the home game this year). We got really lose to sweeping them we basically killed ourself in the Thursday night loss . CJ & Ivory should be able to eat that defense up this year. Allen on Gronk makes me comfortable about that match up. They are not running on us, and our d-line will continue to give this regressing Tom Brady hell! Im calling the highlight of our season will be sweeping New England finally!

Those of you who are talking about the decline of Brady, remember he lost the majority of his receiving corp in the past two years. Who is he throwing to? It's not like when he had a healthy Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker. The fact that he put up the numbers he did last year with his receiving corp is massively impressive. If Gronk can stay healthy you still have a pretty scary passing attack, and a lot of up an comers on the defense. They haven't been as good as they have been in the past but they're #1 in the division until someone proves otherwise.

We have as much to prove as anybody in the NFL. Not to take anything away from the team but we were 8-8 against all odds. We could improve a lot and still go 8-8. We need people to step up the challenge at CB and OL, as well at Geno taking the next step. I like the direction we've been going but we are yet to prove a damn thing.

I hate to say this but the patriots winning the division are a lock. The rest of the AFC East has basically the same major problem that it has always had, no qb. The Bills, Dolphins, and even the beloved Jets have problems that just never get fixed and the qb is the biggest of them.

The patriots have won 11 of the last 13 division titles. The best qbs that the rest of the division has started in the past 13 seasons are

    Brett Favre
    Drew Bledsoe
    Chad Pennington
    EJ Manuel/Mark Sanchez

In 39 seasons, this is what the rest of the AFC East has to offer at qb. Let's hope that Geno is miles better than last season.

Not really sold on Cincinnati to win that division. They did lose both coordinators this offseason and their coach sucks.

As far as opinions go, I think Rex will beat NE both games this year like they owe us money.

The beginning of the end for New England has already slowly begun. It would be AMAZING to steal the division from them with Brady still at QB.

However probably wont be this year.
