The one thing I remember about Stuckey that makes me think that he CAN be legit: It was during the final game last year... the game where the Jets ripped my heart out by making me root against them (You all know the pain I speak of... nothing for the Jets if they win, Pats are out if the Jets lose... I need a drink again). Every time I figured that the Jets had adequately blown their chances of winning, Stuckey would make ANOTHER big catch over the middle for a big play. I was actually cursing at him (GOD I hate what this team does to me). That game alone showed me that he certainly has the potential
All the receivers you mentioned didn't get good until they were 6-7 years into their career. So yeah, if you want to compare Stuckey to them, then he's going to be a solid player....in a couple years.Hopefully, the learning curve isn't so steep and he progresses quickly. The only problem is that we don't have a vet to mentor this guy. Also, that Clowney catch was not 20 yards by any means, it was 70.... and it was two of them.....
This is how long it took those same receivers you mentioned (to hit their first 1K season), that had a learning curve of "6-7" years before they were good. You might have been a little off on your statistics. Isaac Bruce: 119 REC, 1,781 yds, second year. Plaxico Burress - 66 REC, 1008 yds, second year. Laveranues Coles: 89 REC, 1,264 yds, third year. Jerrico Cotchery: 82 REC, 961 yds, third year. Donald Driver: 70 REC, 1,064 yds, fourth year. Santana Moss: 74 REC, 1,105 yds, third year. Steve Smith: 88 REC, 1,110 yds, third year. Reggie Wayne: 77 REC, 1,210 yds, fourth year. Hines Ward: 94 REC, 1,003 yds, fourth year. Roddy White: 83 REC, 1,202 yds, third year.
Gotta agree with this. You put these guys out on the field with Cotch in some 3 wr sets and I think most people will forget we don't have a true #1 guy. When you need a taller guy, like in the endzone, I would assume they will call Kellers # more often.
He will be the next Wayne Chrebet or close to it. When you need a first down around 6-13 yards deep he will be the go to guy. I am very happy about that. As for the deep ball, can we please see what Clowney can do before we declare him a bust. If Mangini would have given the guy a chance last year instead of keeping him under raps and using Smith over and over we could have found ourselves a gem.
Pre-season vs. Regular Season. if we were going to build this team off of preseason results, we could suit up ratliff, mccareins and clowney and be done with it. One more thing I was thinking about... Cotchery got faster in between regime changes, and it showed on the field. He worked at it and sealed up a starting job. I think Stuckey can do the same. He's got a tremendous work ethic and he wants to improve. I actually see tremendous similarities in Cotch and Stuck. I think we could have a solid tandem.
I'm pulling for Stuckey AND Clowney. However this is not a good argument to compare Stuckey to those guys.
I support Stuckey but remember...all of the names you mentioned were in their Rookie season, I know Stuckey did not play his Rookie season but at least he had a year under his belt to learn the offense.
Well I consider Stuckey to be more of a slot guy, maybe Clowney with some burner speed could be the #2
Totally agree. It seems most on this board always feel the need to fill our needs with outside players. I think we are going to be pretty surprised by the productivity of "our" guys.
I was upset when he got hurt and got reamed for it. I can't recall who that was just now, but it will come to me. Chansi Stuckey, what a great football name. Throw him the ball just because of it. I also want to see more Wallace Wright.
I like Clowney and Stuckey both a lot more than I like Smith. I say trade Brad Smith to Cleveland as part of an Edwards deal.
