yeah Cappy I was thinking about that earlier. Two nights in a row he brings in Broxton in a non-save situation and it really backfired.
badass win last night. Huge at bats from Huffman and Chad ummm I mean whatever his first name is Curtis. Although I look forward to adding a veteran bat or TWO on the bench.....maybe we can roll off a 12 outta 15 deal and put some space between us and the Sox. Do the Rays suck? wtf?
Hahaha, I think it turned out better than that! No, everyone is. There was a Colorado game a few weeks back where the crowd was chanting "Yankees Suck." Before interleague play. Yes. Seriously. The good news is that Eiland will be back tomorrow to fix this trainwreck. I've complained about Eiland before, but I might not ever again. If AJ is "fixed" within his next two starts, I won't be able to say anything except Eiland is the man. The entire staff has performed worse since he's been gone. -------------- I love that Torre micromanaged his way into losses in this series. I kept yelling at the tv that it was exactly why he was no longer the Yankees manager. Screw him. I love that ARod said he felt he didn't know if he'd ever see Torre again and that he thought it was the "mature" thing to do to go clear the air. (Even though Bowa approached him and then Alex went to talk to Torre.) ARod can be such an asshole. I love it.
I'm not sure I want another bat. I would like to see if any of these kids is for real and give Thames a shot to come back as a part-time DH/pinch hitter. Honestly, Cashman denies they're looking at any pitching, but I'd like to add a reliable arm to the pen. To rub salt into the Nick Johnson wound, Hideki Matsui put a 3-0 pitch into the seats on Saturday with the bases loaded. Simultaneously, Nick Johnson loaded his face with a bag of Doritos. Anyway, as for the Rays, they've had a rough interleague run, but so has a lot of the AL. It made me laugh listening to Sterling say that interleague is an unfair advantage for the NL, since AL lineups are built to play with a DH. I was like "Seriously John? Every year you talk about how the AL dominates because the lineups are deeper. Maybe it's just that the pitching this year is actually just better?"
I dont care about ht ebat now but we cannot go into the playoffs with Huffman and Curtis as our options off the bench. Cant count on Johnon ever coming back or maybe ever being able to walk again since hes a fragile pussy. We need a reliever AND a bat off th ebench. For sure.
the chants are usually because there are a large number of Yankees fans in every city, so they start loudly cheering for the Yankees, which pisses off the fans of the local team. Plenty of bandwagon Yankees fans in LA. Jack Nicholson, for example. It's the cool thing to do to root for the Lakers, because they're really good. But it's not as cool to root for the Dodgers, so he roots for the Yankees.
Lakers have a ton of bandwagon fans, just like the Yankees. I'd say they're the most successful franchise in NBA history, although it's less clear-cut than it is with the Yankees. Plus, like the Yankees, they've won a lot recently, and they're in a big city. Just like with the Yankees, when the Lakers visit teams, they often have a lot of fans in the opposing building, and that's part of the reason people hate the Lakers so much. Here's the best part: Nicholson also claims to be a diehard Manchester United fan. Manchester United, Lakers, and Yankees. He's a first-ballot inductee into the Hall of Fame of Bandwagonning.
You're talking about roster spots that every team in baseball would love to upgrade... that most teams in baseball would love to be in a position to worry about upgrading, instead of things like finding a closer, or another starter, or a second baseman. Thames is absolutely fine for a bench bat. More than fine. He's just dreadful in the field, but we all knew that going into the season. And there's absoultely nothing wrong with having versatile guys like Curtis/Huffman/Russo/Pena on the bench; in fact, I'd say it's more desirable than a more one dimensional player. A reliever would be useful, but it's the same for every team, and the Yanks are at least in the nice position of having the greatest closer of all time on their side. Joba is pretty much doing what I expected: pitching inconsistently. But I also don't see him losing his role, so it's rather moot in terms of acquiring someone. Robertson has been coming around, too. Relievers are crap shoots. Some years they are good, some years, they suck. By the way, since I saw that people were already judging the value of the Granderson trade: Kennedy's last three starts: 3 losses, 6.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP Jackson, since May 10, when he faced the Yanks: .244/.292/.311/.603. And he's K-ing at a ridiculous rate (38 Ks in 36 games.) Coke's been doing alright, but he's a middle reliever. You can't count on them to have success year in and year out. You certainly don't stop a trade for a player like Granderson because of a guy like Coke. And here's Granderson's line since returning: .247/.321/.485/.806 You can see the difference in value very clearly here. Even when Granderson isn't hitting for a high average, he's still able to get on base at a semi-decent rate and he hits the ball for power. Basically, he can still put up a decent OPS. If Jackson isn't putting up that absurd BABIP, he's practically useless.
I'm not going to get into an argument over the Granderson trade. I still hate it, even though I like Granderson. That's all I'll say about it now. I agree about Thames though. He gets a bad rap right now because he was forced into the field thanks to injuries. Had Thames remained a bench player, and simply jumped into Nick Broken's DH spot when he inevitably went there, Thames would be having a great season and our catching situation would be a lot different right now.
