You're ignoring the fact that Zach was clearly told to stop going off schedule during his struggles the first 5 games. He was told to learn the playbook as designed and trust the coaches, and watched White, Flacco, and Johnson have some success with that formula, so when he returned, he did the same. And he's had a big improvement. He did what he was drilled to do: execute the play. Hopefully yesterday will have taught him that there are times when you simply have to go with your own feeling, but to say he lacks situational awareness after having watched him play 4 games without a T.O. is wrong.
honestly the fact we didn't get rolled over is a miracle. i'm not going to personally give the offense any crap. not when we were missing WR1+2+3, RB1+2, OC, OT1+2, and TE1+2+3+4
When a 360 pound nose tackle is lined up basically head up on the center, both A-gaps are filled. When they go into nearly a double eagle front like that (I get Gholston was shaded slightly), the nose tackle has a two way go and his primary responsibility is just to blow up the center. So just because there was an inch of daylight there, I don’t consider the A-gap to be open on that play.
It really didn’t look like cover 2, but if it was, it needs to be a much softer cover 2 than the way Hall played it.
Saw this thread after I found the meme in my last post. It's a solid breakdown as to why the sneak ultimately happened and makes sense to me. As I said, Zach deserves some blame. He got fooled by a very good DL into thinking the left side A-Gap was open. It's a rookie mistake that he hopefully learns from and one that probably shouldn't have even happened. LaFleur should've been a bit more explicit in relaying the play to Zach.
Utter nonsense! You have no clue what you're talking about. Your comments show that you are totally ignorant about Zach and the type of person and player he is.
The play was the same play they ran to Elisha a few weeks back. It wasn't a specific play called vs. Shu & Vea. It is one of their typical short yardage plays. Zach should have known he had the great wall of China lining up on the other side of the ball. As much as I like Zach I think he made the wrong call. There shouldn't have even been a question in his mind of what to do...end around to Berrios & he walks into the endzone untouched. But of course all the haters would have said, see the Jets just ruined their chance for a higher pick. I wanted a win. But that is what this season is about, learning on the job for players & coaches. You can bet that will never happen again.
He has a headset and is the head coach. I can’t stand the whole “who calls the plays” delineation of roles in these circumstances. You think great head coaches don’t have a say in what goes on in that situation play-wise???
If LaFleur had actually called a QB sneak, then sure I'd blame Saleh for not overruling him. But that isn't what happened. The problem was a miscommunication between LaFleur and Zach about a specific play design, which really is outside Saleh's responsibilities.
Well I think it was Cover 2 but it’s not that clear from the angle. It’s definitely 2 high and I don’t think it was Quarters.
I agree but with the season not on line I like Saleh s aggressive having faith on this offense. So I wasn’t upset. Unfortunately a miscommunication botched the play.
HC's job is to make sure there is no miscommunication. Saleh deserves a lot of blame for that sequence, especially since he was the one who decided to go for it, and he had to call a timeout because they weren't ready. He was indecisive and that indecisiveness made its way onto the field
Dude I’m sorry but it’s not bait. It’s 4th and 2 and there are 3 defensive tackles within a shade of both A-gaps. It wasn’t a glory play by Wilson but it was just an atrocious read.
Disagree big time. If the ball was handed off, the game is over and Saleh/MLF look like geniuses who stared down Tom Brady and the defending champs. The decision was a good one, the play was a good one… the execution was about as bad as you could possibly execute.
Again just to reiterate, the play call was a bad one, did Wilson do what Lefleur wanted? Not blaming Wilson either btw. A Lack of communication at that stage of the game is disgusting really, look I'm not really that bothered I'll take the draft pick over a probably meaningless win (though it is good to beat Brady/Champions) I still feel you put 3 points on the board a lead of 7 and it just changes things a little, of course, we will never know now, what is done is done. You saying it was the correct decision is just your opinion, other people share it and some others do not, I am not the only one that thinks taking the FG would have been the better option, if I was ploughing a lone furrow then I would worry about it a bit more lol I do understand your point of view on going for it and winning the game for sure but as we saw that was easier said than done.
