A 2 at the end of the second round is very cheap if it puts you over the top. The 49ers have pick #61. here's the list of players taken on that pick recently: 2012 - LaMichael James 2011 - Jonas Mouton 2010 - Vladimir Ducasse 2009 - Sean Smith 2008 - Martellus Bennett 2007 - Gerald Alexander 2006 - Tony Schleffler 2005 - Vincent Jackson 2004 - Kris Wilson 2003 - L.J. Smith Now if you're an average team you have to keep making those picks year after year and try to get the occasional great player out of them. It's the only way to keep up with the Joneses and eventually get ahead. If you're a loaded team though and right on the verge of a breakthrough. that's a different story. You really want to get the guy who can put you over the top because there are a half dozen teams out there in the ball park trying to get over the top also for the year. If your roster is that packed then you're not looking for quality depth any more you're looking for ways to maximize your chances at a star right now. Look at that list up there and tell me that any team in the position the 49ers are in wouldn't jump through hoops to spend that 61 pick on a rental of Revis for a year. Now, go look at the Seahawks and tell me that they wouldn't do whatever it takes to stop that rental from occurring. They're like the 49ers junior at this point and they can either let the gap between the two teams widen for the season, and possibly longer depending on whether SF can keep Revis, or they can jump in and make sure that if it happens it's an expensive proposition for the 49ers. I'm betting there's a bidding war at the low end of the market if that's where things wind up. It's makes it too easy for the 49ers to let them have Revis cheap.
1) I've been saying all along that I think they'd trade THAT pick plus a later pick. I'm just saying they won't trade a 1 or multiple 2's. 2) On that list, I'd take James, Smith, Scheffler, and Jackson for SEVERAL years over a 1 year rental. Remember the 49ers history here as well in rounds 2 and 3 over the past few years. Thats Colin Kaepernick. Navorro Bowman. LaMichael James. 3) The Seahawks are NOT going to sign a player they don't need and sacrifice picks they DO need in order to stop a 1 year rental. If the 49ers get Revis, the Seahawks counter by DRAFTING a WR. Giving up a high pick to prevent another team from gettng a guy for one year is horrifically bad business. IF CB was a NEED for Seattle, I could see it...but they have the best tandem in the NFC.
After the Falcons dropped Abraham, Turner and Robinson can anyone else seeing them making a move for Revis. They have around 30 million in cap space. They have an incredibly dynamic offense that is Superbowl ready. They have a poor pass rush but are switching to the 3-4 and picking up Revis could push them over the edge. They are already SB contenders so it wouldn't shock me. If Gonzo comes back for 1 year they could go all in to win it.
Abraham doesn't fit in the 3-4 though. Hes also 34 years old I think. He had to go. Regardless of where your needs on D are Revis will make it better. Besides they have what I read is 30 million in cap space. Revis is only making 6 this season which leaves a lot of money to fix other holes on D.
Right... I'm just saying that they will want to use those picks on pass rushers...not use them in trade for Revis. I could be wrong tho. Atlanta is a possibility.
Not if they are in win now mode which they will be if they bring Tony G back. That gives them 1 year to win a superbowl with him. Picks won't outproduce Revis year 1.
Dude. They have ZERO pass rushers. NONE. They just let their ONLY 10+ sack guy walk out the door. Revis can't cover for 10-15 seconds. They are not one player away anymore. They lost Gonzo and just lost Abraham. I think peeps need to step away from the "a team that needs to win now will give up the farm" thing. The teams that are really good right now have for the most part BECOME good by NOT doing that. Other than SF the only other team that makes sense to me is Denver.
Revis adds coverage sacks. 15 seconds are you kidding me? Spending 6 out of 30 million Revis doesn't mean you can't sign any other players in the front 7. I also said if Gonzo comes back which is still a possibility. Also they didn't let Abraham walk out the door. They pushed him out the door. He was cut.
My ideal move would be to trade Revis to TB for #13 pick and a 4th rounder (they have 2). Then trade the #9 pick and a 5th rounder to SF for #31, #34, #61. That would give the Jets the following: #13 #31 #34 #41 #61 #74 Jets 4th round TB 4th round 6th round 7th round 10 picks total and 6 in the first 74 selections. That is how you could rebuild this team. After 2013, Holmes (2.5 million) and Sanchez(4.8) can come off with less of a cap hit. A pipe dream? Sure. But a plausible scenario.
..... OK. I was exagerating when I said 15 seconds. The 6 Millions is not prob whatsoever. I'm talking about the DRAFT PICKS. Atlanta needs all they can get to draft PASS RUSHERS. I am aware that they cut Abraham....but that doesn't change the fact that he was their ONLY pass rusher. I'm not going to say that Atlanta isn't a possibility. They are...I just don't see them dropping a 1 or multiple 2's now that they have created another need for themselves. To alot of these top teams, Revis would be a luxury, not a NEED.
I don't think the Niners would give up that much to move up to 9. If Floyd falls to that spot tho....maybe.
They also cut Robinson and have needs in the secondary now. Revis would most definitely fill a need for them. At 6 million thats a huge bargain for a team that is ready to win next year.
the jets have the #39 pick not #41 and the #72 not #74 http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0ap1000000143400/article/2013-nfl-draft-order
Whatever we think the Jets are going to be compensated for Revis, the reality will be far less than expected. I'm just resigned to the fact this deal is going to happen and the Jets will get disappointments in return.
