I'd agree. I'll say this tho... The 49ers kinda throw peeps for a loop sometimes and do something unexpected. 2 years ago they made a play for Nnamdi and backed off when the price got too high. Nobody expected them to be a player there. Last year they took a shot at Manning and later kinda denied it. You never really know what they are doing until they strike. The important thing there tho is that even tho they were involved for both Nnamdi and Peyton, they didn't get either player. I personally think they were never going to pay what the player wanted in either case and that's why they lost out. This could be another repeat of that. They'll be involved, the price will be too high, and they'll step away or offer what they think is fair and then the Jets will take another offer. They won't get caught in a bidding war. Their MO is to offer what they are willing to pay and then never move from that position. Thats one of the reasons Dashon Goldson will reach free agency and will likely be gone.
A proper Revis trade can change the path of this org and accelerate the rebuild to the point we can be projected back in the playoff hunt as soon as 2014. If we end up not trading Revis and he walks we are going to be in a world of hurt and I think it will set us back 2 years.
i like the idea of a high condtional pick in 2014. i want all the ammo in next years draft as possible. i dont think we are bad enough to get a top 3 pick but i want the assets available to move up if possible
Correct. Who knows what would have happened with Nnamdi...they play a different style of D than the Eagles do. Manning would just have been a short term starter (a few years) before Kaep was ready. The 49ers always knew that Kaep would eventually take over that job...they just didn't realize it would happen so soon. The Niners MO is to get involved in LOTS of stuff and only make the deal if they see value in it...as in getting something below market or giving away something for more than they think it's worth (see Smith, Alex). Thats how they got all these picks to begin with. They didn't have many holes LAST year so they traded several picks for picks THIS year. They'll probably do the same NEXT year. Don't be surprised if some report hits that the 49ers are going after Harvin next...or some other player. They get involved in most stuff to "evaluate" to see if there is a value deal. Thats a big reason why I've said all along that they won't give up the farm on a 1 year rental. It's too bad for you guys that Al Davis died. LOL. Ya probabaly could have gotten multiple 1's from him...and they would have ended up as HIGH 1's too.
Trust me I understand the so called 'reasoning'...just upset we've reached this point...epitome of Jets mismanagement
Regarding the Niners at WR, do you think they're going to pay Crabtree decent money? He seemed like a bust prior to this year, but that could have just been QB play. From the outside, it looks like they're in a funny spot with him, when is he due to get paid? Yeah, no Mangini with the Browns as GM/Coach and no Al Davis. Who's left to sucker?
Agree. What really burns me up about this whole situation when you put the pros and cons of the various scenarios aside is it sure looks like the Jets didn't even try to come to a deal with Revis. Didn't even try. I am not going to whine too much about it, since you don't really know with the Jets what is going to happen until it does, and even then you don't know the "reasoning" for it. Like trying to figure out from the Tebow trade how they were going to use him, how they intended to use him, what the thinking was. But here it sure does seem like this is Woody's decision, and Woody is not a football guy. His being born into the Johnson family money should not have been the prelude to f'ing up my favorite team.
There's no need to come up with a deal with him right now before he even recovers from his injury. It's not like he's a free agent this year, but rather still under contract. No need to rush things, one way or the other. That being said, for all we know, we can end up trading Cromartie to the 49ers in exchange for draft picks and cap space, and this is all one masterful smokescreen by Woody and Idzik.
I already said I don't know waht is really going to happen. But we do know the word out in the league is the Jets are shopping Revis. I don't see how that is a great strategy if the real intent is to keep him. That is, keep him after renegotiating his contract and avoid letting him walk next off season. If I were Revis, I would be pissed off if the Jets tried that with me. In other words, whatever hometown discount I might have been inclined to give them goes out the window with their treatment of me. Now of course I am being partly ironic here, since I know full well that many Revis Haters here scoff at the notion of him giving the Jets a hometown discount. But the Jets do have some leverage, albeit not much. But some. But with what is happening now, if I were Revis I would tell Woody to go F himself.
I'm not even a little bit a Revis hater. I just don't see how anyone could think he might give a hometown discount. I absolutely don't blame Revis for trying to make as much as he can while he can.
Here the thing, if he goes for less than 1st rounder, ill be angry. I bet you that what the Jets wants and teams are not going to pony up a 1st, especially since Revis is coming off ACL injury and is a free agent next year.
We could be in the hunt this year, trading Revis doesn't guarantee anything as far as speed of rebuild. Think of what the Colts did, and they needed a rebuild worse than us. They won like 11 games with a large amount of rookies after a 2-14 season. The Jets aren't in as bad shape as many folks believe. I know there's no Andrew Lucks out there, but 6 wins with our 2 best players out and poor QB play isn't the end of the world. We are bringing QB competition, Revis only makes things easier with the cap. Trading him does not make our team better unless we strike gold in the draft with the pick we get, but it's very unlikely with his value lowered due to injury. I mean, what, we get an extra early 2nd round pick and it changes this franchise into a SB contender? I don't see it.
Have to agree with you there buddy. And honestly, why would a team spend a high draft pick on a guy that hasn't proven he is still an elite corner after ACL surgery (don't bring up AP because he is a special case, we may not see it again, look a Derrick Rose, I doubt he is the same after his ACL injury)
I don't blame Revis or any other player for trying to get as much as he can, either. The only time if I were a player I could see giving something back to ownership was if I literally felt it could bring the team (and me) a championship. WHat I was referring to is concededly not a hometown discount but the leverage the Jets do have here, that being the last year of his contract at a below market rate. That is something the Jets can use as a bit of leverage, if they were so inclined.
Honestly it seems like anyone could be in the hunt any year. A few things go your way and you can swing a 6-10 team to 10-6 pretty quickly. I almost miss the dynasty stuff from the 80s and early 90s, until I think about how bad the superbowls were, and how hopeless the Jets were in the mid 90s.
Totally agree, plus he's coming off an ACL. I still can't believe he wouldn't take a 5 year contract at 10-12 mil a year given the circumstances.
