I keep hearing that 1 and a 3 quoted on that site. As I've said, I don't see the niners doing that but I can't speak for other teams. Has that compensation been quoted somewhere?
And Vernon Davis is not what a rebuilding team should be looking for in a Revis deal. The Jets should be looking to find a 23 year old threat at TE next year plus something, not taking on a prime time player who will be expensive on the cap and 30 years old when the next window opens.
The comments are irrelevant. You think they need a "green-light" to trade him? If they want to trade someone, they do it whether he leaves kicking and screaming or not. They could careless how the player feels about it.
No team will acquire a "kicking and screaming" player for the kind of compensation the Jets will be looking for. Revis just green-lighted a trade to the 49ers for next season. They now have certainty that he will show up and play for them if they acquire him. They have certainty that he wants a piece of that ring. That's a huge development. If you're the 49ers you don't trade for a guy who might show up at half-speed next year and recuperate on your dime after you traded a few draft picks for him.
Jeez...I've said countless times that the niners won't give up a 1 and a 3 for a 1 year rental and now you want a 4 and a 6 too? LOL. I really don't think some of you understand the situation. Is Revis "worth" more than that? Of course he is. The SITUATION tho dictates his value. Was Brandon Whiting worthy compensation for Terrell Owens? Hell no. The SITUATION dictates worth. You can't look at Revis value in a vacuum. You have to account for the contract, the no franchise clause, and to a lesser extent the injury.
Exactly. They aren't going to give up their 1 and 3 or even KC 2. For a 1 year rental. They don't even know if they will be able to retain him as well as some of the players I mentioned previously. They have a bigger hole than CB to fill, that is WR 2.
Good point. Check out Stanford. That place is a TE factory ever since Harbaugh started recruiting there.
Running isn't overblown for him. Even if you only count his starts (in the playoffs and regular season) he was running for 56 yards a game. Kaep can play under center and in a conventional offense, no doubt. But like RGIII his running ability puts him over the top as it must be accounted for on defense. I do agree the media plays up the pistol, but if you watch Kaepernick play you understand pretty quickly that he isn't a one trick pony. I picked him up for fantasy football before he started the STL game after seeing what he did to the Jets. During the STL game I was calling a friend telling him that he had to pick Kaepernick up. Why? I knew when I saw him playing under center and audibling out of plays that he was going to take the starting job from Smith. You could just tell by the way he threw the ball and how well he ran the offense that he had the whole package.
What will be interesting is if Revis wants to play there bad enough to take a long term contract. Do you think the 49ers would pay him max DB money? Ie: 10-12 mill a year?
I cant wait for all this drama to go AWAY! AFter Revis, get Rid of Holmes (again for pennies on the $). This is why the Jets are never a team on the rise; we overpay for talent, and dont develop. When we do develop, they leave (or we overpay to keep them). In the end, the Jets always have to end up selling assets for pennies on the $. Not a good way to run a business...
A 1 and a 3 accounts for all of those things. If Revis was healthy and under contract at a manageable level he'd be worth a couple of 1's and maybe more than that to a team in a Super Bowl window right now that had just lost the Super Bowl because the opposing QB picked them to pieces including 6 catches for 104 yards by their primary WR.
It's not some huge development that some guy who's shown his whole career he plays hard to win, will continue to do so in another uniform... the Jets aren't going to get what they want from the 49ers not because of anything Darrelle Revis related (outside of injury) but because they've hurt the market they are getting for themselves. By making it painfully obvious they want to trade him they've virtually lost all their bargaining cards. All the 49ers or any team has to do is say "Fine, Keep DR then" and the Jets have put themselves in a place where they cannot play hard ball anymore. The 49ers might LOVE DR but they aren't going to give up anymore than they have too.
What I mean by overblown is that people make the "running QB" argument all the time...IE, he can't be a pocket passer, he doesn't go through his reads....etc, etc. They also attribute WAY too many of his yards to the read option. He hit big a few times this season on that play, but the lions share of his yard came on scrambles...and he typically finds the sideline and runs out of bounds. Against the Packers he had something like 170 of his 181 yards BEFORE CONTACT. I do totally agree that his running ability puts him over the top. If forces D's to account for his running by trying to "contain" him instead of just a standard pass rush and can pull a LB out of coverage when they assign a spy. Unfortunately for defenses tho...he's been know to outrun the spy. The THREAT of his running is IMO more important than his actual running.
Dunno. I guess it depends on how big the cap expands in the next few years. They are already paying huge $$$ to that D. 3 of the 4 LBs have already been extended to big contracts and the one who hasn't is Aldon Smith. They will have to extend Crabtree as well. Then there is the possible monster deal that is getting bigger everytime Flacco or Ryan signs a new contract. If Kaep trends the way he did last year...thats a BIG one on the horizon.
I'm a Niner fan and to be honest I saw the interview and I think it's a non-story. He was asked a question and he answered it. If they had asked him if he would want to be a Raven he'd have said something similar. The 49ers were just in the SB. Most players are going to have a positive attitude about playing there. BTW, I also agree with your last line there.
LOL...on another note.... I'm simultaneously talking with you guys on this board and on a Niner board. You can tell we are all fans and not GMs. LOL. I see some of you in here (not all) demanding #31, #34 PLUS MORE in trade and then I go over there and they are saying a 3rd rounder plus a conditional pick. LOL. IMO, both are ludicrous. The real price is somewhere in the middle.
According to PFC...Kinda what I figured.... Revis to San Fran “unlikely” March 5th, 2013 Sources around the league have told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport that CB Darrelle Revis is “unlikely” to be pursued by the San Francisco 49ers. Although they are looking for an upgrade at cornerback, the price tag for Revis may be too high ($16 million annually).
Revis and his team are asking for too much. There is no way any team should pay 16 mil for any CB. I'm all for him being paid #1 CB money, but there is no way you can pay him like a QB. Even if Revis goes free agent after this year I don't think any team is going to give him a deal like he's looking for.
They have to give up picks for him and then pay him big money next year. I wouldnt make the deal if i was them.
