word is (unnoficially of course) that the vikings, saints, and broncos are also going to be involved. this could turn into a bidding war
I know you guys keep hoping this....but I really don't see it. Teams don't give up prime picks for rental players. Atlanta wants to win this year, but they don't think this is their one shot at it. They think they have a young nucleus and just need some players on D....not ONE player to take them over the top.
Could be true. I really don't see it but I've been wrong before. I didn't think the Niners would get what they got for Alex Smith either.
think about the teams being rumored so far: 49ers - corner is their only defensive weakness broncos - lost out on a shot at the pats in the playoffs bc of their secondary saints-rob ryan, leagues worst d last year vikings - not really sure. maybe bc harvin wants out and they can make a deal. idk all realistic places for him to land. all teams that believe they can win now. lets see what happens
absolutely. i got a chub when i heard about the other teams were involved. if we are gonna give him up, we need a big return. with a guy coming off a bad knee, the bidding war is the only way to get it.
...and no team that is "one player away" will pay him what he wants. It will only be a rental till he can sign with a team that isn't very good for huge $$$$ and spend the rest of his career on mediocre teams.
Whether they have had one on their shoulder or not, they probably are feeling a chip of increasing heaviness, now, if the reports of no contact from teh Jets despite all the talk of a trade are true. The true likelihood of a trade would increase if part of the deal was an agreement by Revis to a new contract with a new team. That would increase the likely compensation the Jets can get, but would require Revis to agree, which he does not have to do. I guess I am saying I am concerned that the way the Jets are handling this may be hurting their prospects of getting Revis on board with whatever they do (other than an outright trade with no new contract, which I think they can do on their own).
You could be right, but I just can't imagine a team would give up a mint for a one-year player and I can't see any of those teams giving him16 plus millions per year.
idk if you got the message about those teams i listed. all are WIN NOW teams. a 1 year rental of revis (especially in the case of san fran and denver) could be the difference between dissapointment and a title. they will take the rental. they know what he is worth. while i do believe that any intelligent gm would want to have at least the ground work of a deal in place before the deal is official, these teams are close enough to be talked into the rental.
Thats why I said I can't see a team give up a mint for a 1 year rental. Of those teams I think the ones most likely are SF and Denver and SF has alot more to offer. I just don't think the price will be a 1 or multiple 2's. Those teams that are that close have other avenues to fill their needs that don't involve giving up high draft picks. Hellthey can USE those picks and get players cheap for a long time. Of course none of those players will be as good as Revis, but good teams don't give up high picks for one year rentals. Thats how they got good to begin with.
they dont unless they are super close. the broncos lost on a bomb to jones. the niners lost in the big game by 3 points. those are two situations where the rental makes sense.
Sure....but not for a huge draft pick package. BTW, I'm a Niner fan....so I know how they lost. Sigh. :-(
Denver, yes. SF, no. SF did lose by but mere 3 points. The game was, however, a lot more lopsided than the scoreboard indicates. Broncos do need someone to replace Champ at #1, but they need more than CB help. Their safeties both blow chunks. And Goldson is leaving this year, right?
Dashon Goldson? Possibly. It doesn't appear they want to franchinse him and they don't want to pay his 8 Mil per year asking price either. I think they'll let him walk, draft a young Safety, and maye look at add an older vet (Reed, Woodson). Denver does make sense to me...my only prob with them is that they have alot less picks than the Niners so may be even harder to pry them away. Still, Manning one year older. Champ 1 year older. Ya never know.
A cursory glance around the news suggests that the Broncos have over $17M in space at this point and are likely to cut D.J. Williams freeing up another $8M or so. They could also restructure Peyton Manning to free up a bit more space if they needed too. They do have a franchise tag likely to go on Ryan Clady at LT and that will eat up some of the space but they're in decent shape to make a run at Revis, particularly if he's a $5M or $6M rental. The Jets will likely have to pick up the roster bonus of $1M before any deal gets done.
So let's say the Vikes want him and want to send Harvin our way. What would the potential deal look like?
