If Young or Bush aren't there at 4, we should trade down lets say 5 to 10 spots, pick up another early 2nd, possibly a 3rd and for sure at least 2 4th rounders. RD1 #9 and #23 RD2 #35 and #41 RD3 our own picks RD4 Our picks + another something like this would really help the rebuilding 7 or 8 picks in the 1st four rounds.
Maybe we can field a whole team of rookies? How many draft picks are we going to have this year. We have a lot of picks already. We have a ton of cap room. It's time to start thinking quality over quantity.
First Kudos to the Tangini duo, I'll say it again we are in good hands with these two rooks running things now. Kudos to the Broncos for getting the steal of the century. And I laugh at all those Falcon fan punks who have littered our board with nonsense over the last couple days. Yes you got Abe but you'll be sitting out the first round this year which if I remember correctly you said would never happen.. Great job by our Fo, its not so easy to get first round picks anymore, especially for injury prone me first players. Alexander and James couldn't get there teams first rounders and Daunte netted a 2nd rounder. So thats two former league MVPs that couldn't get a first rounder and we got one for a dominant at times DE.
thats what im sayin...heres a quality organization year in and year out...no superbowls but theyve been there a ton...they just seem to make good solid moves every year....we'll probably improve in the next couple years and end up in a championship game at denver...and we'll probably lose the game...and say "damn,we're good but those broncos are great" hahah just a thought i know im looking way down the line here but those broncos always seem to burn my ass
If I recall the patsies had 12 picks in the draft the year before they won the first out of three SUPERBOWLS. The year after, what like 10 picks? Think they were onto something while we traded down year after year they traded up, got more picks and won SUPERBOWLS. Oh by the way doesn't our HC come from NE? The truth is the pats knew what they were doing and we apparently didn't. Glad to have a proven winner as a HC.
they're constantly contenders yeah,,,but idk about afc championship..hell by the time we get to the afc championship we could be battling with the texans..
The Mannenbaum duo stuck gold with this deal. I am very impressed. They said that they were not taking anything less than a first rounder for Abe and stuck to their guns. ATL fans are going to be sooo pissed when Abe can't finish a season!! LOL!!!
I think we need to trade down because we can probably fill a need in apackage with our #4 and not pick lower than 12. There's gotta be ateam between 8 and 12 that would go for that. Unless we are heart-set on taking D'Brickashaw Ferguson we need to consider the other options. Trading down could still get us Lenda;e White or DeAngelo Williams or maybe even Vernon Davis even though I think we need to look elsewhere. Haloti Ngata is a great prospect if we trade down also. I would only condone taking Vernon Davis if he was still there at 29, and the chances of that are slim to none b/c he will prob go in the top 15.
So, how was that salad this morning??? :rofl2: I think the JETS couldn've gotten a 2nd pick along w/ the 1st especially since they already had a Done deal.
No. A Mediocre Job at best, and they F*d themselves by looking at the 31, from Seattle. Abraham was worth number 15, flat out. Getting a 29, and letting Atlanta recoup picks, was Bullshit. Grade C+
Hindsight and Atlanta doing a good job doesn't screw us. Atlanta wasn't ready to give up the 15 for Abe, this was a compromise for both sides. At the end of the day the sign of a really good negiotation is both sides leaving the table feeling they got a little but also feeling they could have gotten more.
Well that goes without saying. What I learned from this is if you are trying to close a deal and both parties have gone as far as they are willing to go, investigate bringing in another player in the deal with more pieces of the puzzle in satisfying the original party's needs. In this instance the Falcons were not willing to pick up Abe for the #15 pick over all and I can understand why they were reluctant to this: We established a bench mark of value with the Seahawks, Abe has had injuries, and there was still a question of alcohol (at least to a potential buyer). We on the other hand were adamant about Abe's value being worth a first round pick. Even though Abe had approved of the contract offered by ATL, which helped, it was not the impetus to get the deal done. Enter a third player, Denver. Personally, I think our 2 guys in the FO masterminded this entire thing, but I am not sure who will receive full credit for the creativity. Denver had a lower first round pick to play with. Infact, they had 2. I think Denver's need was one more of a desire to move up a bit in the draft and they were able to do so without expending both their 1st round picks (they also position themselves well to move up further if they wanted to now having the #15 and the #22 pick overall - something to think about). By Atlanta trading with Denver for the #29 and some middle round picks they had the #29 pick to deal with, which sat better with them from a value perspective. While they lost their 1st round pick, they did acquire Abraham plus some middle round picks. So the lesson learned is if a deal is stymied look at creative ways of bringing other partners in the deal to get more pieces of the puzzle and bargaining chips on the table. Sorry, for the lengthy response, but you did ask.
Then Abe should have been forced to stay in NY, for 8 mil. Period. The 29th player overall, for Abraham, is a steal. Realistically, abrahams value lies between #10, and #15.
Not when for 8.3 Million in cap space you can sign two very good established NFL players, draft an impact Defender with our 4 and take an OL player with the 29.
I tend to agree with you, I think we got hosed a bit for a player of Abraham's quality--a proven player in his prime. He was a #15 or whatever before he established himself in the league. Not trying to start a fight here, but I have to think that if Bradway had made this same move, everyone here would be crying about us being fleeced and calling for his head.
Yeah but you have to consider what he was going to cost. This team needs alot of players and you can't just tie all that cash up in one guy. His skill may put him between 10 and 15 but you have to consider his cost too, and with that considered I think 29 is a good deal.
