With the scouting department we have (excellent) and considering Leon is almost 30 and coming of a serious injury I find you position baffling...

Tibia and Fibula injury on a 30 year old HB? What's not to love?

You'd be hard pressed to find a Jets fan who doesn't love Leon Washington, but, as many have said, his injury and creeping age make a 2nd round pick a no-brainer. Especially in a draft this deep, in the mid rounds, where we specifically don't have many picks.

Truthfully, I'm just wondering what teams would bite on this...

leon won the lottery when rex failed to walk out onto the field with a 12 gauge shot gun and put him out of his misery when he broke his leg. good thing favre wasn't around then.

look, as good as leon is, i can count on one hand the number of games he as won for us over the last 3 seasons. leon can be a difference maker at times, but not necessarily a game changer. he's not in on enough plays to dominate a game.

tanny's move to tender leon was indeed brilliant. it will settle the leon mess once and for all. either no other team will bite and we lock him up for a resonable price, or we draft a younger version to grow with a young sanchez.

He'll be 28 come the season. I'm 28 and I still consider that mid-20s, so meh.

People are discussing Leon getting old, his rookie season was only 4 years ago.

RBs age quickly. Also, he must've been an old rookie, like Greene.

this rounding up bullshit is getting a little out of hand.. somone says late 20s.. then someone reads that and puts almost thirty.. then someone reads that and says he is thirty... like 2 years is a BIG deal.. especially when you have only been in the league 4 yrs..

yes yes i know the injury.. his leg.. stick to that.. if there are any questions surrounding leon its coming back from the injury.. but i haven't read one report that has said anything less than he is ahead of schedule and making great progress..

but back to the topic of this thread.. a 2nd for leon?? Absolutely..

As far as 95% of this board is concerned once a guy it around 28 or so he is near death and should be shot in the fucking head. Jezz...sometimes I just have to laugh at this stupid shit. Leon is near 30 so we mine as well just say he's 30 + he had an injury = worthless

If we had Welker and he suffered the same injury everyone would be screaming to dump him while we still had the chance.

Lets see...say a guy gets drafted when he's 22. It takes him two years to learn the ropes...24. He's "30" and approaching death at 27-28. So he's got about good 3 years. Why the fuck should we draft anyone then? Lets just be like the SKins and buy the best FA's every year?

Not true. Players other than at RB can play well into their 30s. RBs can often start from day 1. It goes both ways.

Yea I hear ya. I didnt mean only RB though. I've seen it alot this offseason here, when someone mentions a guy that we could/would aquire the "age police" surface and get all flustered if he's 28 or more. I saw someone bitching about Boldin...some WR can play well into there mid 30's. Sure he's had injury problems but after 4 or 5 years of starting in the NFL who the hell doesnt?

why does everyone love draft picks mroe than proven players? why are we ready to give up on leon for a 2? a healthy Leon is worth more than a 2, maybe he won't be healthy? but to give up on him for a prospect is crazy. Then we have to use draft picks on RBs if that happens so what's the point?

I think some people look for any reason to tear someone down, whilst others will overlook anything inconvenient to their opinion. The rest of us are somewhere in between.

Who says they wouldn't just match? Maybe they're wanting the market to determine Leon's value so they don't have to deal with his moronic agent any more?

We got Leon for a 4th and got what may have been his best 3.5 years (average life of NFL RB) if he doesn't come back the same after injury. It's not like he was a key component to our offense, and B. Smith has already shown he can do *some* of the things Leon can. Leon may only have one more left in green anyway if his agent is going to continue to ask for more money than he deserves.

I'm a huge Leon fan and hope to see him back at 100% in green, but as an organization it would probably be a pretty good move to get a #2 for him that we can use in this supposedly "deepest draft in a decade" when we're short on picks and have such heavy FA restrictions this year.

Really having a tough time with that facts thing again, huh?

Leon is 27 years old. He's played in the league for 4 years. That hardly qualifies him as old, even by NFL running back standards.

Injuries to broad bone commonly heal back as strong or stronger than the original. It's not like he injured a joint or a ligament. Statistics say that he will return to form and you have a tough time grasping reality.

No, having to stretch the truth to try and prove a point is what's baffling.

Because running back is the easiest transition from the NCAA's to the NFL. Leon is proven to be a great returner and good change of pace back. We could get a much more complete back, that is younger and will cost less with a second round pick. Its not all that far fetched at all.
