THE BEST game otta Petty so far Kid didn't quit even after a very poor start playing Teams like 49ers each week could build his confidence lol If he keeps us in games vs tougher competition, not necessarily win all, I am buying in on him
Petty started off jittery with a bad pick and then got better as the game went on. He made some incredibly ballsy throws and it is great to see him getting more comfortable playing at the pro level. Have to give him credit for improving after a bad start. 3 more games to go and I think he will get even better with more experience under his belt.
Petty did some good things out there, I think he's got a major case of the happy feet when his first read wasn't there, but it's definitely something to build on.
In all reality with quality teams coming up if petty plays well and even wins a game or two that's a win. If he we get blown out then we know the direction we go and look for help at the position. I for one felt the team played with vigilance this game which is huge and I feel they rallied around him much more than they ever did for fitz this year.
If you think this team, who was gifted a win against an atrocious 49ers team yesterday, has any real chance at winning their last 3 games of the year then you clearly haven't been watching this season. Like I said let's see Petty show some improvement and enjoy the ride. Top 5 pick will be a nice post Christmas gift.
He is a LEADER. It was obvious and the way our team got pumped for him shows a lot. Happy for this guy. All I want to see is progression. He did get better as the game went on.. Some rookie mistakes, bu they.. it's only his 2nd full game on a team that gave up. But he stepped up and I think the rest of the team caught on. Praying for him to take us where we neeed to go.
A lot has been said about the sacks he took and that is warranted. It also needs to be said that this is his 2nd full start. With receivers for the most part he is still unfamiliar with. The line really did not do him any favours and that contributed. He was playing from behind the whole game and still pulled it out. Yea yea it was a crap team but we are a crap team lol. If fitz was in there down by 14 the team would have quit. That speaks volumes for petty and his effort.
Petty did good in the 2nd half. Hope he builds on his performance against the 49ers. Always good to win.
He played well enough to earn an additional couple of games. He was not good enough to make me confident in the QB position going into next season. I dont think he convinced me that he should be guaranteed a spot next. However, he can still earn that as long as he goes out and continues to improve every week. Loved his energy out there. Made the offense finally look like they care.
He had some nice moments in the second half. Obviously we know the INT and some of the sacks were ugly. It is also fair to note that the Niners are a dreadful football team. He has another 3 games to show how he can progress, against better competition. In my opinion, if he wants to lay a claim to the 2017 job, the performances will have to better than yesterday's. With organizational investment in him low, he needs to really shine to become the "guy" moving forward. I don't think up and down performances will be enough.
Petty showed some improvements after getting the majority of the reps this week in practice. He did a better job as the game progressed with going through his reads, and he showed some touch on a few throws. Hopefully his pocket presence improves with more playing time.
Honestly, that's the outcome in rooting for. Yeah, we might not be able to draft someone like Myles Garrett or Reuben Foster, but there are plenty of good players to be had. Not all superstars are drafted in the first 5 picks. It means more to me if Petty shows he has a chance to be our guy than it does (added bonus of beating 3 division rivals/ruining Dolphins playoff hopes) if we pick 4 or 11/12. Good franchises don't breed losing mentalities.
Miami's defensive front will be a serious challenge both for our young, sack-prone QB, and for our young offensive line. I expect it will be ugly, but I will give both units a ton of credit if they make good things happen.
Interesting everyone critiquing him failed to mention that the 49 DC was changing the coverages, blitzing and do as much to confuse him as possible. That being said he was unsure with some of his reads; thus, the sacks and holding the ball to long. AS for those who stated he had happy feet well yea dudes, the OL PP was a joke... He played error free after the 1st pass INT and actually ran with the ball in the second half. he showed improvement from the 1st game and got better as his nerves settled down... As another poster pointed out he has two - 2 - starts and lets remember this is the kid that didn't know how to conduct a huddle, recognize mike LB, call OL adjustments, etc. I think under the circumstances he played pretty well and what is more important in my book is the team played hard for him... that is leadership which has been lacking at this position since Penn and Fav.
The best thing that can happen for the Jets is for Bryce to show enough that the team feels comfortable with him starting the season next year - (Even if it doesn't pan out, that is okay -- you have Hack and can look for a QB after next year then. This team needs so much help in so many places that we need to be able to devote our resources (draft picks and $) towards building an all around better team especially OLINE. This is not the off season to be in the market for a QB whether drafting or in FA.
Have any of the Petty critics seen Elway or Akin early on? Petty made some throws that Fitz can only dream about. That 2 pt. play was a thing of beauty...
Its probably not for the best but I would see if Petty can make throws on the run. He seems to convert alot when he rolls right or left. Aka how Rodgers or Favre did. Obviously you dont want your QB doing that, but with this makeshift offensive line, need to make plays
There is talent and then there are intangibles ie leadership gut moxie Bryce showed all of that yesterday after going down 14-0 in the NFL not the Big 12 lol As I have posted before I really believe attitude will beat out sports aptitude Don't forget BP was a 4th round pick and if he was nervous this game facing a tough Miami team will have his blood boiling I say you keep the kid around if he galvanizes players Not looking for miracles here but if he wins one more and we stay competitive the other 2 then Mac got us a real find jmho
What impressed me was his reaction after getting blasted on the sidelines. He got up, shook off the birdies and got back in the game. What I did notice was his intensity went to a different level. He didn't get pissed, but he was dead serious from that point on. Good thing he's built up all that upper body strength over the summer. He's 230 but looks more like 240.
