Sad but we had our #1 QB Sam Darnold but we had a half wit trying to develop him and he turned into a head case. When he finally went to a professional organization and was properly handled he became an excellent starter. So if we draft another hot QB for next year do we have the staff and organization that can fully develop him.

Well now we don’t, so posting in the QB prospects 2026 thread which one do you think the Jets should target?

Week 1 of every season, we should have a contest to guess who our QB will be Week 1 the next season and to guess where our current QB will be playing Week 1 next season.

For example, I will guess our 2026 starter is Russell Wilson and that Fields will be a backup on Carolina.

Full disclosure I didn’t watch the whole game because it was an instant blow out and I couldn’t find the “every throw” clip. But I’m not super impressed by Mendoza from what I’ve seen? He’s throwing to a lot of wide open receivers and in this short clip, he threw two slants that are hospital passes.

Outside of that he has 9 touchdowns against Old Dominion and the lethal Kennesaw State. Going to try to see how he looked versus a tough Iowa defense on the road.

Wish Mateer was a bit bigger. He would be compelling.

Lazy comparison but he gives me Baker Mayfield vibes.

Pavia is fun to watch but NFL QB? I'm not so sure.

Loved him in the Alabama game last year.

I get it. He doesn't have any of the tangibles but has all the intangibles. Plus, he always puts on a good show. Can't be worse than Christian Hackenberg, Browning Neagle, Glenn Foley, Brooks Bollinger or Quincey Carter. Didn't we also have Rick Mirer at one point? Tom Tupa played QB for us at one point as well.

Would I take a flyer with a Day 3 pick on a guy like that? Absolutely!

I deliberately didn’t go there, but I totally agree. Shows a lot of grit and leadership, while being capable on a technical level. On the smaller side, not going to be much of a baller

Something about his build reminds me of Baker as well. Short but strong lower body.

I just don’t see why Mateer would come out. Why not go back to school, make a couple million and chase a Heisman and #1 overall selection?

I’d guess his market research and the NFL competition committee give him a high second round grade at best since he likely plays eight or so games with two of them being against Illinois State and Temple.

The only caveat to that is if he comes back and they make the playoff where he absolutely lights it up.

i think because he can have cake and eat it too. He can miss half this season and it helps his draft stock
