This is where we differ a bit in opinion which is ok. The Jets situation over the next two drafts is different from any team without a quarterback because of our draft capital. I’m perfectly comfortable with using a first both years on quarterback. This position is not only the most important position in football it’s the most important in all of sports imo. Plus it’s haunted us truthfully since broadway graced us with his presence. If using 16 this year and a 1st next year to get it done we have to take that calculated risk. We just have to given Allen/Maye are in the division as well. Practice reps can be managed. It’s been done before and can be done again.
Honestly, you sold me on Simpson. But is he worth burning 16th pick on? Where do you see him going realistcally?
It might be more than just 1st next year. I can see us winning 6-7 games and needing at least another 1st rounder to move up for a QB and then some. Would the team still do it when you just spent 16th on Simpson and didn't even fully evaluate him yet? This may not be as obvious as Josh Rosen. Rosen had 30 starts in College and played a lot his rookie year plus Arizona ended up with #1 pick. But what if Simpson plays only a few games if any at all and it is hard to tell? Do you just dump him before you know who he is yet and package multiple 1sts to move up to whoever is considered one of the top QBs in 2027 class? What would be your plan of action in that (fairly likely) scenario where we have not fully evaluated Simpson to know if he is good or not yet, and would need to package multiple 1sts to move up to get a 2027 guy? That's why Rosh Rosen type of scenario is quite unique in the NFL. Not because teams don't want to take cracks at QB, they just simply don't know after 1 year if you have the guy or not, and/or don't always get top pick the following year. Not that simple. Which is why if say Tate or another blue chiper is there for a trade up that won't cost too much or straight up at 16, I would take the blue chiper at another position over Simpson. If not, then maybe I would go with your suggestion. But we need to be prepared that likely means no top QB will be drafted by us in 2027.
