I actually subscribe to that Frank Reich QB type as described by Boomer. Give me 6-2 to 6-6 guy. Chambilss is probably under 6 feet. Not my type.

I'm not familiar with most of that drama but since nobody said anything yet, I'm going to guess Hendon Hooker.

Right position. Justin Fields. Fields was granted a waiver to transfer out of Georgia to Ohio State using a horseshit reason. Everyone knew it was horseshit, including the NCAA. He could transfer, he’d just have to sit out a year without a waiver. The real reason he was transferring was because Jake Fromm announced he was coming back for another year and it meant Fields would spend a second year as Fromm’s backup. I don’t blame him. He was the #2 recruit nationally and we had all just watched the #1 guy, Trevor Lawrence, kill it as a starter and win a national championship.

The reason he gave for his waiver request - when Fromm was sucking ass against Tennessee, a guy in the stands yelled, “Put the (n-word) in!” Every Georgia fan was thinking the same thing, minus the racial slur. But the guy who yelled it happened to be a UGA baseball player. So, Fields’ waiver argument was that he needed to transfer because he’d be uncomfortable if he decided he wanted to play baseball that spring. The NCAA granted the waiver - easily. Didn’t hurt that Georgia wasn’t about to fight it and highlight the case to other recruits. Of course, Justin Fields didn’t play baseball at Ohio State that year or any other.

The 2nd tier of QB’s behind Mendoza are all just about the same. None of them are superstars, all of them have flaws that likely will make them career backups, however they all have some qualities in that they might pan out with development. If we spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on any of these guys it’s a disaster. We still must draft a QB next year in the first round, so what’s the point of wasting a 2nd round pick on someone we’d have to wait and see? I would not draft a QB until the 4th round. Allar in the 4th makes much more sense than Simpson or Nussmeier in the 1st or 2nd round. If they’re all gone before the 4th round then oh well, we’re not missing much. All 3 of them look to have a likely career arc of a Mike Glennon. Decent backups, might even get a shot to start at some point, but don’t hold your breath.

Considering the history of Penn State QB's, is Allar at decent choice? Are there others?

Here's my viewpoint, as I mentioned previously, due to the utter lack of talent at the QB position, most of these kids are going to get drafted a full round, if not two, higher than they would in a normal year. It's why I've been talking about Nussmeier et. al. in the 2nd. Of course none of these kids are worth a 2nd round grade but they'll go there. FOMO always gets in the way. In teams cases, like the Jets, who absolutely MUST draft someone, if for nothing more than to have a QB in the pipeline, they will almost certainly overdraft a kid. Only the most astute GM's, with a conviction of granite, will stand their ground until the 3rd and later. Those GM's will also, more than likely, be GM's of teams that have at least one QB that is somewhat presentable. Which, of course, is not the Jets. Even the Browns have that pro bowler Sanders. o_O lol Makes me laugh that we have to mention Sanders in the same breath as Pro Bowler. What a joke...but I digress. Anywho, y'all know what I mean.

I'll say this, though, by the end of the 2026 draft, we are certainly going to know what kind of GM we have in Mougey. All questions and doubts will either be wiped away or he'll be on the block with Glenn.
