The CBS article I read said the team bypassed the 5th year option and signed him to an extension instead. If Schefter is correct then it makes way way way more sense for the team and makes me even more baffled as to why teams wouldn’t lock up their stars earlier rather than later. I’m failing to see how locking up star longterm while the first two years of a new extension are at a rookie salary is terrible for Houston.
Are there any Lions free agents worth signing? Usually when a coach takes over a new team, he brings players from his old team. I haven’t seen the Jets linked to any Lions yet and pretty sure they haven’t signed any.
Which article says they bypassed it? I think this would be moronic. But let's see, anything is possible. SI is fairly accurate though normally and so is sportrac. P.S. And one more thing on Sauce, he is coming off a relatively down year. Stingley did outperform him in what was a contract year. That matters more than Sauce outperforming Stingley before. I definitely feel like at the very least Mooge has to get 4th year option on Sauce (which Houston did not get) and also pick up 5th rookie year option (which I believe was done with Stingley but even if not, it SHOULD be done here).
None, which is kind of concerning. Granted... if there was even a hint of interest from the Lions in retaining me and my other option was the Jets, I'd take less money to stay too. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ive-back-in-nfl-history-with-3-year-90m-deal/ "Stingley, 23, was eligible for the fifth-year option this offseason that would've tied him to the organization through the 2026 season, but the Texans have seemingly brushed that aside with this lucrative extension. " It looks like the 5th year option being included was reported after that article was written so they weren't wrong necessarily. But yea, having a guy locked up for two years at a rookie scale before his extension even kicks in is a homerun. Which is probably why it was much higher than Horn's 25 per year.
Yeah, they had no idea if 5th year was included or not, which is why they said "seemingly". Ie "I have no idea". Horn also had 5th year option picked up btw. He is just not as good as Stingley and will make less. We need to also pick up the 5th and target the contract somewhere in the middle of the two. Maybe 30 mill annually like Stingley, but 4th year option like Horn or something like that.
All the more reason it makes a ton of sense to lock up your stars after year 3 when they are eligible. -Keep stars happy -Keep elite talent -Save money -Control the asset for longer
100%. It has to happen. My point was that it is not too late though. I expect it soon and hopefully a better deal for the Jets than Texans got, like I described above.
I already explained - they didn't get the 4th year team option. which I hope Mooge negotiates for us. Doesn't mean it is bad, just could be better.
This is where I'm confused. There is no 4th year option. Team's have to pick up the 5th year option IN the 4th year, but it has nothing to do with the 4th year of the contract.
To clarify what I mean - I want the contract to be something like 4 year 120 mil, but only <90 guaranteed. Meaning 1st 3 years are guaranteed, like Stingley, but if Sauce plays up to his contract, we get an extra 4th year at 30 mil, and if not, we can release him. Hence I call it 4th year team option. That's the same deal as Horn got, but at 25 mil per year (100 total over 4 years, 72 guaranteed). Q got similar deal before. Texans went against precedent by not adding that 4th year team option, and I would prefer Mooge to include it.
Kris Boyd. Also signed Rashad Weaver. Like I said before, we will be getting scrubs at this point to compete at the camp until the draft. Then more movement in the second waive of free agency.
