Dick Chimney and others reported the same. It happened. https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1883951174208090388
So the Woody Johnson Triangular Org Chart rears its ugly head once again. I hate being right on occasion. Hopefully we'll get better results this time but as anyone can see, Woody Johnson will meddle whenever he sees fit. That will never change.
Have to admit, I'm a little worried who's on deck if Nick Caley doesn't come on board. Klint Kubiak, another floated name, ended up elsewhere. I think they'll have some decent back up options, but I'm starting to see other OC positions being filled and Caley is apparently interviewing elsewhere too. Not panicking about this, but antsy to see the staff built out.
Glenn rightfully won’t be calling defensive plays. But seems to be bringing in hard nosed guys to help get the right coaches in here. The Jets need some great men to lead these guys to wins, I’m cautiously optimistic that he will nail his staff.
Nope, but I love how it “seems like” he’s bringing hard nose guys \sarcasm People just believe what they want to believe regardless of evidence. Saleh was a hard nose no nonsense guy when he was brough in, until we realized he wasn’t.
relax, it came out that Westhoff would help Glenn assemble a staff, like as an adviser role which is what I was referring to.
I heard the Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson's name was kicked around, I think Breer had him mentioned. He grew up in the very same town as Glenn which could be why Breer speculated on him though I didn't realize Caley interviewed here previously with Saleh before he hired Hackett.
Josina Anderson who’s been nailing the coaching carousel so far reports Tanner Engstrand name is involved with the OC job. Also says Steve Wilks name has come up for DC.
Bringing over the Lions passing game coordinator reeks of Saleh having to settle for MLF because they couldn't get anyone good and the rest of the SF staff went elsewhere. Consider me alarmed.
Hiring the passing coordinator of the league's no.1 offense is a good thing, I hope Anderson is right on this one
Mike LaFleur was the passing game coordinator for the Niners and he blew. Granted the Lions are better than those Niners teams MLF worked for, but the notion remains the same. Who knows what "passing game coordinator" entails. It's surely not play calling. The Lions think so highly of him that they went ahead and passed on him for an outside OC that hasn't called plays in 8 years.
Well looks like Dan wanted some experience. Plus Morton was on the staff with Dan in 2022, so there’s familiarity there.
Right. Every QB not named Zach Wilson looked like a Pro Bowler with MLF as coordinator. Clearly wasn't the right guy to help develop a raw rookie QB with tools, but ZW made him look much worse than we was. But anyway, back to the present, who knows about Engstrand. Part of one if not the league's top offense in recent years and also has good experience as a coach as well as played some college ball. Glenn doesn't have to avoid anybody he's previously coached with, but if he was relying solely on those guys I'd be more concerned. Caley, who he had no overlap with, was also high on his list.
His playcalling was atrocious. 0 feel for the flow of a game. Obviously he was saddled with the worst QB in football for most of the time but 1. that says SOMETHING about his ability to develop a QB and 2. that doesn't change situational playcalling. Some of the shit he did was just flat out bad. And this goes back to my bigger point of a passing game coordinator being an auspicious title when you're looking at potential OCs.
