I'm really interested in how the WR-CB matchups go and if they keep traveling Sauce. But the Jets Oline against the Eagles Dline is the matchup I like the least. They are loaded like we want to be loaded on Dline.
Hopefully the Jets use a similar defensive scheme that they used in the 2nd half last week and keep a spy on Hurts. Russel Wilson was lighting the Jets up with his feet before that. The Eagles game is another game like the Bills / Chiefs, where they will have to play near perfect and have a defensive TD (or multiple turnovers that lead to points) to have a chance. Not impossible, but a tough task. Hopefully Max Mitchell is ready to rock. Aaron Rodgers should also be on site, which can be beneficial.
not impossible, but almost nearly so Philly is a true Super Bowl contender and we are not even a playoff team… I agree that in order to win, the critical things will be for Zach to have a very good game…and punch in a TD or two instead of keep settling for field goals, and we’ll need either a defensive or special teams score and we’ll need to win the turnover battle. For whatever reason, this is a team that we can just never beat. On top of that, they are and have been very good…I can see plenty of times when we may throttle down their receivers only to have Hurts run for first downs on us… Will be tough…
There is certainly an argument to be made that the Eagles come out flat traveling back east looking ahead to Dolphins on SNF next week. That said this is a bad matchup on paper. Eagles have the Oline to neutralize the Jets pass rushers and they are excellent at exposing defenses who over pursue.
On the other side of the ball, they have a good pass rush that should cause problems for the Jets OL and Wilson.
Only if Hackett goes counter to his pattern of Run/Run/Pass so far this year. Needs to be just a bit more creative and unpredictable to give his offense a chance and the Defense a rest.
Jalen Carter leads the NFL in interior pass rush win rate as a rookie. He is ranked #1 in pressures, #1 in hurries, and #3 sacks. They also have great speed off the edge so even if we want to roll zach out and move the pocket, leaving the backside edge unblocked can still lea to some problems. If they come out and pressure, we better have slip screens ready. If they think they can stop the run with just 4 and want to play on the backend we better be able to run the ball. I didn't like this matchup at all with Rodgers, now with zach? This is going to be a brutal one.
Yea this is just a bad matchup everywhere you look. I was much more confident that the Jets could hang around with the Chiefs than with the Eagles. Their strengths are our weaknesses. They rush the passer and stop the run well. And they can run the crap out of the ball with their RBs and QB.
It’s a tough matchup for sure, Rodgers or not. They are a good team, and historically we tend to shit the bed when we play them. Don’t know why that is, and understanding prior games have nothing to do with this week’s team and this week’s game, but it is what it is. I don’t give us much of a chance as we will have a very hard time on the OL and while I think Sauce and Reed can help contain Brown and Smith, the X factor will be Hurts running the ball, and we tend to give up a lot of yards to running QBs, so it could be tough to get them off the field consistently. We will have to outscore them, and I don’t think Zach can do that against a high pressure defense like the Eagles. This one could get ugly … like Cowboys game ugly…
If we play our usual defense Goddart will probably be the one who damages us the most. He tears up the second level and a LB cant cover him. But Hurts hasn't been as sharp this season and throws some bad passes. If we could take advantage and get turnovers, even a pick 6, we might have a chance.
Our leader speaks: Edit, twitter wont embed. "If their QB runs the ball we have to give him 11 kisses".
[QUOTE="The80sJets, post: 4350375, member: 28436" Eagles have the Oline to neutralize the Jets pass rushers and they are excellent at exposing defenses who over pursue.[/QUOTE] Throw some exotic blitz packages at them... Hurts is easily confused.
Why does he say stuff like that? without a doubt Philly will convert a first down/TD or two with the play, Hurts will fall forward comfortably
Bart Scott today had an interesting strategy to take away the “Brotherly Shove”. Me thinks somebody will get Hurts.
