Well, I suppose late is better than never. At least the 1's will get several series if not a QTR together before the real games begin. I'm as curious as Saleh to see "how it goes" as its a new system, different QB, different OC, patchwork OL.. The Giants won't be playing their regs so, I hope our guys are on their toes as those Giant scrubs might go headhunting trying to make the roster. The last game of preseason might be the most dangerous..
I'm not worried in the slightest about a potential injury from Rodgers in this game. Having the 1st team run some plays for once is far more valuable. They took too many days off in camp If his old body he can't handle a quarter of a preseason game then he wasn't gonna last long in the regular season anyway.
Moreso worried about some borderline scrub player on the Giants trying to make a play by doing something dumb to hit Rodgers or a starter. He hasn't played in preseason since 2018. He's won multiple MVPs without playing in the preseason. Rodgers has been in the league for a long time. He knows how to dirt it or just fall down for the sack, I doubt he will allow himself to take a hit, but never know what a dumbass fringe player will do.
Not saying this couldn't happen, but is there an actual comp for this example? And please don't bring up Sanchez......
Right? We want the guy to play 80 quarters of football this year, but if he plays 81 quarters it's the apocalypse.
I don't have one. It's about the risk of injury in a meaningless game. It isn't even about Rodgers. It's about all the starters. I don't know why that is so difficult for some people to grasp.
It’s really not difficult to grasp at all. I don’t think anyone is struggling. I think most people realize it’s not that big of a deal.
Right man.. if it wasn't that big of a deal he would have played at least once in the preseason the last 5 years. Risk vs Reward. There is absolutely no reward in playing Saturday. None. Zero. Zilch.
I don't see the big deal giving Rodgers a series or two. The Chiefs played Mahomes in both preseason games and the Bills let Allen play some last week. Can't worry about getting hurt. Players get hurt in practice all the time. Injuries happen.
I would usually agree with that but what makes it different for me is because the window is so small for the Jets and Rodgers (2 years?) that losing a year due to injury would be devastating. It's way worse than the Chiefs losing a year or the Bills because their QB's has a much longer future. Rodgers, not so much. I'm not going to freak out over it and Rodgers seems like he's excited to play. I guess I just have "beaten dog syndrome" when it comes to the Jets, lol.
Coaches and players: "I feel like the starters should be on the field at least once before the season opener" Fan online: "THERE IS NO REWARD" I know who I'm listening to, no offense.
From the Boss's mouth.. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38239747/jets-robert-saleh-playing-aaron-rodgers-coach-scared
Or... getting your starters on the field together playing in a new offense with a new OC before the season opener. That does indeed matter. The coaches who coach and the players who play seem to unanimously agree. I'll take their word for it.
Yes b/c playing your starters vs backups is actually going to change the direction of the 2023 Jets. The only thing that can change the direction of the 2023 NYJ is a main cog of this team getting hurt in a meaningless game. Oh. We also play the Giants October 29th so neither team is going to actually show anything. This makes so much sense!!!
I'll say it for a third time... the coaches and players find value in it, I'm going to take their word over the fan complaining about it online.
Absolutely hysterical how you want to listen + trust the coaches/team over this, but when they didn't go get your boy Carr you were all up in arms about how the regime is dumb as rocks. Amazing. Here's to hoping nothing goes wrong on Saturday! We all want the same thing in the end.
What a reach. You're trying to compare apples to something that isn't even a fruit. But what do Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid know... I'm personally going with dawinner from a Jets fan forum.
I saw Mahomes get crushed and taken out on the next play. I saw McVay win the superbowl 2 years ago without playing one starter with a new qb
