Gallo can play a real good outfield and has speed. I haven't looked but I bet his OBP is better than Stanton's. Stanton is a better overall hitter, but not worth the money disparity. Stanton is a loser, and winning will usually be in spite of him.
So no thoughts on the clutch HR Stanton hit to take the lead? This guy catches so much shit in here. Give the guy some props. He's better than Gallo who has been a fucking waste of a lineup spot this far.
He needs to do it more, no question.... the fact he just can't play outfield is mind boggling... it's not as important anymore since the acquisition of Gallo and Judges return, but Yankees needed him to play OF and it just couldn't happen. I would rather have at least 3 other Yankees at bat over him in a crucial situation, and too many times he just fails the eye test and looks terrible. The fact he's being compared to a guy whos been here 3 weeks says a lot. My hot take on Gallo: He looks exactly like Adam Gase but with hair.
14-5 since they last lost a series and Cole is coming back tomorrow and Montgomery on Tuesday. They just need to keep winning series.
Who didn't know Stanton was going to strike out on a pitch 3 feet outside the zone? Easiest player to setup.
Second highest OPS of the regulars on the team (.812). 4th highest BA (.262). 2nd in RBI (57 and 2nd in HR (18). He 2 walks from leading the team. He's tied with Judge for most strikeouts. He's not worth what he's being paid but it's not like he's unless either. And if they Yankees are going to make any post season noise, they definitely need him.
The Yankees were 10.5 games back of Boston on July 6th. On July 25th they were 9 games back. They've made up 9 games in a little over 3 weeks. That's insane. Boston is really struggling right now and the Yankees have been red hot. So it's a 3 way tie for the 2 wild card spots. If the Yankees end up with the tiyp spot, I love their chances in a one game playoff game at home with Cole on the mound. Can't think about chasing down the Rays just yet. They are beating the crap out of the weaker teams in the AL. Hard to picture them collapsing the way Boston has. A lot of people had the Yankees dead and buried, including myself. Looks like we were wrong.
Yankees are a bottom offense so him leading or almost leading doesn't make up what has transpired this year. He needs to play outfield also, and it seems when he plays outfield even a day or 2 a week he's a better hitter. But Stanton's been playing better like most of the team. I'll admit I want to see more games where judge is in center and Stanton plays corner outfield
20-5 now. Here is a very interesting stat: "Cortes' outing gave the Yankees a 2.93 ERA in their last 40 starts since Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Mets on July 4 and it marked the 30th time in that span a starter allowed two earned runs or less." That is how you win championships. It's all about the pitching.
23-5 since they last lost a series and 11-0 sice they last lost that heartbreaker to the White Sox that was supposed to bury them ("That's the dagger that killed the Yankees season.")
