They still have a good secondary is my point. No team has really torched them Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
And for more context, Sam posted the 4th highest qb rating and 5th in yds/att v Pittsburgh this year.
I did meet Joe Douglas after the game, he was nice and knows what he needs to do to fix the team it seems. We really don't have a bad team. This was an unfortunate season of injuries and that sucked Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Is it fair to say that the defense faced a much easier task than the offense did? Or does that upset anyone's Gase sucks narrative?
Still wish I lived closer. Next year I won't get to see a game without traveling and this year the only game I was able to attend was Cincinnati.... talk about a crap show. Hopefully Douglas turns the ship around with or without Gase and the few games I get to attend are worth going to.
Yep. As long as those first 4 picks are 2 o line and any combination of wr/edge/cb/ more o line. I think we could have something. I still think a mid cost cb in FA would be fine. Maybe go for another Bless Austin like gamble late in the draft. Honestly in 2 years if Douglas does what we hope this could be a team no one wants to play.
Why you're so emotionally invested in defending a bad coach is beyond me. It may be Gase's first year here but everyone knew what he was in Miami. Yeah sure the D was going up against a third-string QB/RB...with third string LB'ers and CB's like Bless Austin who cost the team a TD with stupidity before the half. It was almost a preseason game level roster on both sides when the Jets' D was on the field, only with their starting o-line and WR's and our starting d-line and safeties (with Adams playing hurt).
Nice! Notice how Douglas has NO coffee cup in his hand like our previous GM Starbucks boy MM JD is all business with the attaché and I also once saw a photo or video with him with binoculars checking on Team play
Hence the conservative gameplan and playcalling. Only issue I had were the repeated 1st and 2nd down runs on back to back plays, but again I understand the reasoning behind it. They knew Rudolph and Hodges were not going to beat them.
Because we won the game and there's still bitching. The offense faced a much more difficult task against a top ranked defense. The Steelers have scored one offensive touchdown in six of seven games. And Gregg Williams is being praised as if he just stopped the 1999 Rams, while Gase is being destroyed. You can't just take away wins from the head coach and place them on the defensive coordinator but then turn around and put the losses on the head coach. It's just irrational.
I wasn't in love with the game plan in all honesty. But Darnold hit a rough patch of inaccuracy in the middle of the game. And threw what really was an interception to Minkah Fitzpatrick. So we shelled up and played field position. Not an awful strategy but it can be ugly to watch.
Definitely wasn't his best game in terms of accuracy. One of the things Sam has a tendency to do is try to throw it downfield when guys are running open underneath for a nice gain, it's definitely one of the things he needs to work on in the offseason. I think this will come with time, and once he starts doing this the offense will start stringing together drives consistently.
I like your suggestion on the 2020 draft. High picks on the OL (actually ANY picks) would be a refreshing and needed change from the former GM--why they kept him 5 years is a mystery.
They kept him to punish the Fans just like Toilet Bowles Sad to say , but the Owners have maybe learned half a lesson hiring JD but also making Gase HC But..yes there's always Next Year to see how this combo works..sigh
Very ugly to watch. They basically were terrified Sam would make a bad choice or fumble the ball and he would give the game away. If Gase wasn’t, he would of tried to end the game instead of running it 3x and punting. After watching the Philly and Dallas game, you can see how much more they trust Wentz. Philly got the ball back in a very similar way and they threw the ball for a first down after a 1st down run and ended the game right there. I would personally prefer they take the handcuffs off Sam and let him be the reason they won the game not leave it in the defenses hands. Without Maye knocking away that last pass to Washington, Jets more than likely lose that game.
