I agree he wasn’t a very good owner, but I don’t think he deliberately held the team back in the way that, say, the Wilpons do. Wang is more comparable to Woody Johnson who isn’t a very good owner but hasn’t held the Jets back deliberately.
Did you realize he bought the islanders after watching one game of hockey? He knew nothing about the game and trusted the wrong guy in Snow. You were spot on about him forcing out Smith, Snow had his ear and simply conned his way into Wangs good graces.
RIP Charles. I am also happy that Malkin is our owner. He got us Belmont, spends up to the Cap, and hired Lou and Barry.
Florida did everything they could to give us this game. 2-0 headstart and the delay of game penalty with under three to go, and we still found a way to lose the game.
Lou is looking at Garth and asking, what the hell where you thinking giving out long term contracts to these guys?
I don't expect them to make the playoffs. There are some nice pieces in place to build around but to many role players and garbage on the roster to do anything significant this year. I honestly believe Lou/Barry are using this season as an evaluation to see what they have, who they keep, and what needs to be done going forward with the draft, FA, trades etc etc etc. Lou and Barry can't fix the mess Charles and Garth created with over a decade of incompetence in one year. Sucks for the fans but nothing we can do but hope Lou/Barry fix this.
I read and article yesterday that Lou was listening to offers for Leddy. I don’t believe he’s shopping players but I won’t be surpised if they go into sell mode to shed the terrible contracts and start making room for the young players to come up. Watching Barzal it’s obvious he’s trying to do too much as he’s feeling the pressure of being on top line and being a leader. As we all know, it’s just a matter of time before Bellow, Ho-Sang and the other productive members of the Sound Tigers are called up. They need skilled playmakers. Bailey, Nelson, Eberle, Beauvillier, don’t create enough to be leaned on at the NHL level especially being top line players.
They just announced that the first Toronto game will also be at the Coliseum, not at Barclays. Welcome home, pajama boy!
Strong game this afternoon for the boys against Philly. Two more games to this rough October (8 of 11 games on the road), and then starting on November 1 they have 6 out of 8 at home. Need to be 5-5-1 after the first 11 to have a decent shot at at least 10 wins after 19. Given the current talent level I'd view that as pretty good.
Was it me or did you guys notice Nelson centering Bailey and Lee? Barzal was centering Eberle and Beauvillier. I know Trotz is trying to mix things up and it’s nice to see Eberle and Beauvillier with Barzal again.
They talked about the switch pregame. Trotz wanted to try and get Beau going so he put that line back together to see if the old chemistry was still there and quite frankly is really is. My only knock on the line is it is really weak defensivly and he needs to go to them and tell them if they want to stay as a unit their own zone comes first. Offensively they are wonderful to watch.
Thanks for the information, I don’t watch pregame for any sport I just put it on when game is started. He had a similar problem when he was behind Capitals bench until they picked up Oshie. I don’t believe he’s going to get anything defensively from them, it’s just a matter of grin and bear it until they find a two way winger to put on the second line.
They got defense from their second line, Canes still put 39 SOG but they are slowly buying into the sacrifice offense for defense first philosophy.
5-4-1 and with 7 of 10 on the road. Not bad. I still think this team is doing it mostly with smoke and mirrors as the talent needs upgrading. Trotz has been the biggest plus for the Isles without a doubt.
Upgrading the bottom six really helped the team defensively. They are playing a much more cohesive game over all. Trots and Lou made this an actual NHL team and the players seem to be responding. It’s great to see.
12 SOG by Pittsburgh in first 8 minutes of game. This could be a 7-6 victory by Isles by the time it’s said and done.
