Training camp is notoriously boring. I can't say I ever really enjoyed it. Except when they signed Brett Favre. Like everyone I went crazy.
they should have stayed there, or at least announced that this would be the last year. also, it would have given them time to buy or rent bleachers for the fans at the training facility. which is located amongst the smell of new jersey instead of the crisp, clean air of the finger lakes. chances are pegula cornered woody at the owners meeting and said: ' woody, I overpaid to buy a major league team in a minor league city. I have enough trouble with a large contingent of giants, jets, and steelers fans living in my area . the giants left Albany, but I can't get the steelers to leave Latrobe. so, at least give me a break and leave Cortland. ' leave Cortland, and I will tell paulie wallnuts to lay off you. plus, I can have one of my buddies in the fracking business buy your penthouse near central park. hey, who can pass up a $78 millon deal?
Agree 100%. As an 'up state-er', and Cortland being 30 mins from home in a beautiful setting, mountains, grass, trees, college girls directing traffic, Ithaca a hop away, on and on, gave many of us a real attachment to the Jets that we don't get by living 300 miles away from 'Giants Stadium II'. Whole families that never watched football before would pack up the kids and sit on the grass watching something special. Rex moving training camp to Cortland changed the culture of the 'other half' of NY in the Jets favor. haha Rex moving to Buffalo can now 'reclaim' NYS as his own.
Hofstra is the perfect place for camp . They were there for many years . Woody is putz when it comes to anything old-time .
Signing Favre was the beginning of the end . They threw Pennington to curb for that old , overrated , jeans-selling redneck .
I really have nothing against Jet fans who live on Long Island, but the Jets have not been a Long Island team for a long time now. Why they would go back to Hofstra is beyond me. I thought Cortland was a great idea, actually, not that I live anywhere near there, but getting the team in a sort of isolated spot seemed like a good idea, good for focusing them.
Don't feel bad. I was the biggest Chad fan in the world and still ran out and bought a Favre jersey too. Sucking being duped.
this is a false distinction. The New York in the Jets name means the New York City metro area, which includes northern New Jersey and Fairfield County, CT. It's mostly Buffalo fans who want to make a big deal about this state business.
IDK--they're more of a long island/queens team than anywhere else in the state of ny since they actually played in the area--there is no such relationship to Cortland. Therefore, Hofstra > Cortland from that standpoint.
I didn't say they are a Cortland team. I said the name New York for the Jets means New York City, not New York State. As for Long Island, so what if they used to play there. That was 30 years ago. Are the Colts still a Baltimore team beacuse they used to play there? Don't answer that - it was a rhetorical question.
I read your original post as saying there is no reason to hold training camp at Hofstra more than there is in Cortland and in fact Cortland is superior. You based this on the notion that the Jets have no relationship to Long Island beyond whatever NY means in their name. I am saying that there is still a meaningful relationship to Long Island/Queens based upon the fact that they played here and therefore Hofstra or anywhere metro area is the superior choice as long as there are sufficient facilities. I think you are getting defensive about this and I am not sure why. Its just a discussion.
There are many people in Baltimore that would say yes.... The Jets are traditionally a long island/queens team. Still probably the largest contingent of fans on the island today. btw- side note: I was in Baltimore a couple years ago and went to the Ravens/Colts game. To this day they refuse to call them the Colts. PA introduction "Welcome to today's game between your Baltimore Ravens.....and Indianapolis" Scoreboard says Ravens vs. Indianapolis, the whole nine yards.
they refuse to call them the Colts because they do not consider the Indy team to be legitimate Colts. Anyway, my point is that a situation that existed long ago only carries you so far.
If you want to see them they want you to pay for the PSL's and a ticket and go to the Stadium for a better look.
