SportsAllDay @SportsAllDay_ 1m With Daryl Richardson having a strong day and a solid camp so far, Alex Green's injury could have just sealed his fate. #Jets I guess this is assuming the Jets were planning to keep 5 RBs on the Roster, ( 4 + FB ). No way DR beats out Powell flat out.
You know that most of those picks, including the Boyd pick, were compensatory picks, thus untradeable? And good luck on predicting an athletes future outcome on less than a week of practice, as well as a flawed assessment of his time in college.
That was my thinking as well, Don't think Green or DR are eligible for the PS either. Seth Walder @SethWalderNYDN 5m Nelson (groin) and Powell (hamstring) did not finish practice.
You are right, nobody should ever have an opinion on a player ever. Should I just wait until he's out of the league bagging groceries before its okay to think he's a bad QB?
You're switching from one extreme to the other. There is some middle ground. Like maybe after this preseason we'll have a much better idea.
everyday from practice we hear reports on how poor Boyd has looked. But sure, maybe I'm being extreme. I'll wait until they cut him before I make the assumption that he's no good.
Brian Bassett @Brian_Bassett 40s Ivory expected to be short-yardage back http://bit.ly/1tWZyQF #Jets #NFL Interesting, hopefully they use him as a closer as well, I wouldn't want to tackle Ivory after chasing down CJ and Powwel for 3 quarters.
If Sudfeld is the best TE on the roster when the season opens, I would view that as a disappointment. I hope Amaro steps it up soon
The thing to watch with the TE's is pass protection. We already know that Cumberland is among the league's worst TE's at pass pro. Bohanon also struggled with it. It's an area we really need to improve on. Sudfeld can get on the field more if he proves himself the most reliable option, especially in 2 TE sets. We haven't seen what Amaro can do in pass pro, but its not something rookies typically run with right away, especially if they haven't done much of it in college. That said, the ability to block in general will make Amaro so much more valuable if he can do it. Will keep teams guessing on the run/pass, gives us ability to move him around in motion, line him up split or in-line, etc.. And of course, pass pro will help keep the blitz off Geno. Even when pass protecting, teams would still have to account for his receiving ability, opening up lanes for our WR's. We need this versatility from Amaro. Something to watch for..
I was thinking that too, but now i can see them keeping 4 RB's. potential injuries and future depth may be on the brain. Powell is gone after this year, it'd be nice to have another experienced RB on contract through next year and I can see Richardson taking that role.
And he had 1 remarkable day of practice. I have hopes for Sudfeld, but if it's a choice between a tall receiving TE, of which we have 3, and one that can pass and run block (Pantale), I think I may choose the latter.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Powell stick around on a cap friendly deal. He's not great so won't garner a huge price tag but he's good at most things and by all accounts one of the guys that "Plays like a Jet". He fills a role very well and with 2 aging backs in CJ and Ivory I wouldn't be surprised to see Powell stick for another few years. I could be wrong though.
I tend to agree. He's not great but he's all around pretty good, I think they should keep him around.
I just expect him to go some place where he can make a little more and get a bit more reps. he's a RB thats gonna be 27, this is his only shot at a decent sized contract. maybe he gets a 2 or 3 year deal worth not much more than 4-6 million playing number 2 someplace else, but thats better than sitting behind TWO other RB's here. the only way he stays is if is value is less than imagined or he's given a chance to play starter in green and white (with pay to reflect hat) thats not to say he's some greedy jerk, but hey he's gotta strike while iron's hot right?
Powell is the perfect compliment back for CJ and Ivory, he's a change of pace for both, catches well out of the backfield, is a good pass blocker, can play power when he needs to and has a passable second gear. He reminds me a lot of Thomas Jones, actually, he's a good cutback runner. He doesn't play to protect his health like Jones did, though. He actually fights for yards.
I look at it from a different light, Jets are on the up and up, or at least we all hope so and it might be in Bilal's best interest to stick it out ( even if it's for less money ) in order to win. He seems like a team player and one that wants to win as opposed to just making a lot of money. With Ivory being so injury prone I don't see him sticking around past his current contract unless he proves his worth this year. That leaves CJ and Bilal as #1 and #2 next year unless we pick up someone or CJ doesn't return to form. If Ivory does prove himself dependable this year in the short yardage back role, I wouldn't rule out the 3 of them coming back again next sesason. I think there's a reason we didn't draft an RB this year, We have a lot of talent right now @ RB. Another thing to remmeber is that the FA market for RBs has dropped severely over the past few seasons,.. They're not the bank breaking unit they used to be across the league.
