The Pelicans got a good deal I think. Osik is a decent player, and they need the depth badly. I like Anthony Davis, and Ryan Anderson a lot. That team could be going places. Also, I have a question for the smarter fans here. How can a team "sign, and trade" a player that is a free agent?
because under the CBA team A can only sign a player for X amount of years but the team said player is leaving for can get more money and more years to that player. It's beneficial to the team who trades the said player because they get something in return instead of nothing.
ok...JS....lol...the jealously is soaking through..and I truly do not follow everyones teams..so expoxe the jealousy...who are teams you route for. I have a few guesses..but give me your teams. Who said fans are jealous of the Knicks tradition? Where do you get this stuff from? You continue to lead the discussion towards things we are not discussing. Fans? What are you talking about? Off topic...Phil Jackson has begun the rebuilding in a move that got rid of 2 of the laziest players in the NBA for a really solid point guard and 2 draft picks. To say the Mavs got fleeced is an understatement. Wow...what were the Mavs thinking?
Yahoo Sources: In a first step toward creating max contract space, Houston trades center Omer Asik to New Orleans, along with $1.5 million in cash. Houston must know something, because they are moving everything right now. Lebron?
So now I'm diving into NBA twitter speculation, but Lebron wouldn't want to join Houston without Melo being there. He wouldn't want to join just Harden/Dwight, he would rather Melo. So that would be one reasoning to why they would try to flip Harden for Melo. If Melo signs outright, obviously flipping Harden for Lebron makes sp much sense if Lebron is really leaving.
Yeah that's what were saying earlier. The Asik move is "hey look we can have the cap space" move to both Melo and Lebron. Lin deals are supposedly lined up IF one of those two commits to them. It sounds like they want to keep Lin if they cannot get Lebron/Melo but if they get any indication from one of them, Lin is shipped off and they have around 15-19 million
Again, more rumor mill stuff, Jose Calderon is supposed to have a good relationship with Marc Gasol This NBA offseason is kind of wild
Yeah, I read that. Apparently this is a move to also help bring Gasol over in 2015. Could just be rumors, most likely is, but that's pretty cool
I don't think Howard is a draw for any Max guy. Really...he just doesn't bring that kind of excitement. I agree. He is looking at Melo and where he ends up..and if Melo stays in N.Y...maybe he entertains that next year but I kind of get the feeling that Phil is trying to make this as unappetizing as possible for Melo. Just get the feeling there isn't too much love there..especially at the max.
Magic traded AA for Fournier and a second. Either his trade value was grossly understated or this move is just part one. Was really hoping for a trade with CLE.
Me too. I think Afflalo is very underrated, but I think Fournier is too. When he actually got minutes, he would play well. Now that said, Afflalo is much better, so the Magic def got ripped in this one.
It still doesn't make sense. You hear the "sign and trade" scenarios with Mello, but he opted out, and is a FA. How can they still control where he goes?
because if he wants to go to lets say Houston..but wants the big bucks and will only go to Houston to get the total max...and the Knicks would get squat...Houston can go to the Knicks and agree to sign him to the max and then trade him. Its the ultimate in getting as much as you can but still leaving the team you are on.
They don't control where he goes BUT since the Knicks had him on contract, they can sign Melo to the max contract no other team can. So if Melo wants to get paid and a team is willing to pay him that much and he can only get that contract from the Knicks -> sign and trade. The Knicks would do it to get assets back, Melo does it to get paid, the other team does it to get Melo. That's why it is so interesting if Melo is willing to take less money, because then he is free to sign somewhere outright. If he wants to get the max or near the max, he needs the Knicks.
Thank you Displaced. That was the perfect answer I was looking for. You guys excited for the draft in half an hour?
Enjoy the draft, its probably the best in a decade, and the best ive ever seen. I think the two teams to watch tonight are the 76ers (#3 & #10) and the Hornets AKA Bobcats (#9). If things can break right for them they both have a chance to really have impact players. I think the Lakers to have a chance if they can get Julius Randle (assuming he's healthy).
