That player might not even be there the longer you wait. It's a double edged sword. I was more interested in resigning our guys back - maybe you add Golden Tate and some smaller pieces.
I don't understand why everyone is surprised? Idzik is a very calculated guy, he goes after low cost high reward type of players, this will be no different in F/A. This approach is the absolute best approach to take as well. I'm very happy that Idzik is smart enough not to blow his load on the first day of F/A. I applaud his method right now and I'm loving it. F/A will be had, stop stressing. It's just not going to be any of these flashy names that are getting over-paid in regards to what they are really worth. We will sign a lot of under the radar, high reward, low cost type players.
I really don't see what's special about Byrd and Decker to be honest. Look at some of the deals from today ... Broncos got a great deal for TJ Ward, Eugene Monroe was resigned for 7.5M / season. Steelers signed Mike Mitchell, for a pretty good price. We are gonna get into a bidding war with Austin Howard. This was right when FA opened up. Honestly, I was just hoping we could bring our guys back and add a few players via FA
If Howard signs elsewhere, and the Jets don't get Verner, I think bpa might go out the window and the first 3 picks could look like this (which will be sure to piss everybody off because no WR, no TE and no OLB LOL): 1. Lewan if he's there, if not Gilbert or Dennard 2. If they didn't get Lewan in the 1st, then they take Moses from VA (OT) or a S 3a. whichever position they didn't get in the 1st two rounds
This is what we wanted from Idzik right? No large contracts, no big deals to fill a hole. Important players are still out there, we got time
He's probably letting all the impulse buys go by. We're not going to bid against somebody if they're already bidding against themselves. When that quiets down you look around and see what looks good at the non-impulse prices. If somebody signs right away in free agency it almost always means the team making the offer made a mistake. Now and then a superstar breaks the rules but even those guys don't help their teams all that much.
I don't expect Lewan to be available, he is destined to be a NY Giant. I'd rather go Zach Martin at #18 and pick up a corner in rd 2 or 3.
One league source says he has intimate knowledge of a lunch meeting that took place between John Idzik and Sandy Alderson in Wal Mart, earlier today.
i was talking about the super bowl being in arms reach when we actually made moves for key players.. obviously in 09 and 10. And why do i need names? how about Positions. we need WR(s) TE, RT, LG, CB, FS, SS, OLB and your seriously asking me who should we sign? lol. All im saying is what is the hold up what will we benefit by waiting besides missing out on key players that this team needs desperately. i know its early in the first day im not expecting us to sign everything we need in a few hours. But again, WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR.
dude we need a wr more then a corner.. id rather have milliner and wilson play cb then not use our first 2-3 picks on weapons
