He looked like he was pointing to the center of his chest, kind of right at his sternum, when he left after that play. I don't think he took that shot to the head but I only saw it live (and in immediate replays, maybe once or twice after). What a lick he took though... two guys, more or less full speed, one outweighs the other by 40+ pounds, that's what happens I guess! Brady got a nasty one across the facemask that got flagged. I actually was more concerned about that because after that play, he short-hopped an awful lot of passes.
I agree. They should pay the man. He is Tom Brady's security blanket, just like Keller is for Sanchez.
The Jets have to use the pass to open the run, especially with the lack of running backs. They need to go deep to Hill early and often. Sanchez has to be on point, like he was in 2010 in Foxboro except we need him for 4 quarters, not 3. We need pressure up the middle, something we got inconsistently against the Colts and consistently didn't get the previous games. It's going to be tough, and I think Brady will enough time to pick us apart. Another thing would be to punish Welker coming over the middle. He's taking some really big hits and that will always help. Patriot fans can confirm this, but it seems the Patriots play a bend but don't break defense. They like to keep all the passing plays in front of them, but they struggle at doing this for some reason. Not sure if it's primarily on the safeties or CB, but their secondary rarely seems to win 1 vs 1 battles against WR and seem to be susceptible to double moves.
I think our Safeties played far worse yesterday than our CBs did. Part of that can be attributed to the fact that we ended up playing backups Tavon Wilson and Nate Ebner at both positions due to Chung and Gregory both being injured. However if we are being honest, our safety play has been garbage for a while. I wouldn't describe our defense as "bend but don't break". It's more like "take away the short and mid-range plays, but allow opposing offenses to butt rape us deep". It's funny that you think our CBs try to keep the play in front of them. What I saw was that they were simply doing the opposite of what they needed to in every situation -- when receivers ran short routes, our DBs stayed behind them where they had no chance to interrupt the pass -- when the WRs ran deep, they were allowed to get behind our CBs and Safeties and catch a bunch of deep throws with room to run. Our CBs and Safeties have been allowing deep-threat receivers to get behind them all year. The good news in this upcoming matchup is that our run defense has been very good. From what I have seen from casually watching the games, it seems like Ray Rice is the only RB who has given us any trouble at all. For the most part, our rushing defense has been very stout with only 7 men in the box. Also, they have done an outstanding job of forcing turnovers. With an offense that depends on the run, and a mistake-prone QB who thrives on play-action, the Jets might actually be a favorable matchup for our defense.
Well let me clarify, I think the philosophy behind your D is bend but don't break, but you get broken quite a bit. It happens, you have played some good QBs. The one unacceptable one has to be the one yesterday. Up 6, you have to keep everything in front of you and force field goal. I know Sidney Rice is fast, but wow that was surprising. For a team coached by Bill the secondary doesn't seem disciplined
We can beat them, its not quite a stretch honestly. I still give the edge to the Patriots but I will not be suprised at all if the Jets take this game.
You're right. The Pats have always played a bend but don't break style under BB. No big plays and force turnovers. Obviously they haven't been getting the results hoped for this year (or last year also for that matter).
This is a week that Sanchez is gonna have to come up big. If he can throw the ball the Jets have a shot. They have to attack the Pats weakness, and it's defending down the field. If he struggles, the game will be a rout for the Pats. This is just my opinion of course, but I just don't see the Jets executing a great running game this week. The Pats front 7 is very big and great against the run.
Pats will be wearing throwbacks Sunday http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2012/10/patriots_to_wea_3.html
I hadda funny feeling they would. Im convinced we will never see them wearing their home uniform ever again. That playoff loss still has em shook for some reason, they didnt wear their normal jerseys last year, and they wont this year.
Lots of teams are superstitious that way. The Jets always wear white on opening day, and so happened to beat the Pats on opening day 2009, so they wore white against New England ever since. They beat us at home last year, so expect to see Greens or (puke) alternates this time at home.
I always thought the 'wear white for opener' (and for often another one or two early home games) thing was more based on summer heat still usually being present, as in, darker jerseys attract more heat. Regarding the superstitions, of course, the Jets wore the green pants in their playoff win because they wore them the previous time they won in Foxboro (Nov. 08). Not so lucky last year, though.
Hey there fellas. Big game on Sunday. I could not be more down on the Pats this year. Our defense it just not good. Plain and simple. It's going to be hard to watch you guys most likely beat us in Foxboro, but at least we'll be wearing our throwbacks so I can tell myself it's just some bad Pats team from the 80's.
I think its going to be a good game but not an easy Jets win by any means. If we had a healthy Revis and Holmes I would feel much better about it.
