Don't think there's much doubt there. They've been friends since their days in Italy I think. The Lakers can really not go wrong with either option. I'm glad the Sloan rumors from a couple of days ago were just rumors. That was a guy who retired on the Jazz midseason because of D-Will's ego and the Lakers were supposedly going to bring him to coach Dwight, lol. That would have me worried. I'd honestly prefer Dan Tony a little bit more over Phil if Phil isn't 100% on this latest comeback. I guess you can never get sick of winning but you have to wonder how motivated you'd be at 70+ years old with 11 titles.
Celtics announcer at end of 3rd quarter "Pierce has been in there the whole game right?" Other announcer, "Pierce has played 27 out of the 36 minutes". I guess one of the announcers forgot about 9 minutes of gametime hahaha
Are u serious? How many rings does Tony got? How many rings does Phil have? I want Phil and that who will be the next coach.
Phil supposedly wants more control as a GM and to be able to skip certain road trips. Do you want a Phil who isn't 100% into it?
D'antoni has done it with Nash before. I could it see working out. Howard would be his Staudamire. Kobe and the others are an added bonus. I doubt their defense will suffer all that much. Although under Woodson, the Knicks have gone from the bottom of the league in defense to #1. Melo's also leading the league in PPG right now.
Wish D'Antoni the best of luck. I had problems with him as the Knicks coach, but he should have fun in LA. He will need to tweak that offense. That bench isn't very good and doesn't have the shooters his NY or PHX teams had/have. He also has slower/older players and players who love posting up. This offense should be a TON of pick n roll with Kobe and Nash handling and with Howard rolling or Gasol rolling or popping. This should be the bread and butter of the offense. The rare kickout can occur if MWP is out there, but not much 3 pt shooting or shooting on their bench it seems
I like the D'Antoni hire.. I think he will be prtty good. And let's be honest, it's not like Kobe and Dwight are going to magically forget how to play defense because D'Antoni is their coach. FTR I knew it was coming and why I would have blown a gasket if my team traded for Andrew Bynum... injured again. Likely to miss a month. Some organizations are just stupid.
Grantland, yet again, delivers a solid basketball article http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-t...in-praise-of-the-new-york-knicks-front-office
Oops the post above was supposed to be in the Knicks thread. Anyways here is Andrew Bynum sitting on the bench:
Best site out there. Period. Bill Simmons, Bill Barnwell, Chuck Klosterman, Katie Baker, Jonah Keri, and this new kid Zach Lowe is pretty good too. All-Star lineup of sports writers. Add Andy Greenwald to talk about TV and it's unbeatable.
Darnell Mayberry @DarnellMayberry After getting ejected in the 4th quarter, Kendrick Perkins & Zach Randolph had an altercation near the locker rooms. Police investigating. @DarnellMayberry: Police captain saying an altercation did not take place and there is no investigation underway.
second quarter of clippers/heat, JVG pointing out exactly what I said about the Brown situation. if they so lacked faith in him that they were going to dump him after a few bad games, they never should've began the season with him. Miserably mismanaged. And then flirting with Phil, having it all over the news (the assumption Phil was coming back), and then going with D'Antoni. Cousins missed Sunday's Laker game and another game because he confronted Sean Elliott. Here's an article about an ongoing appeal: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...f8d3be-2edb-11e2-b631-2aad9d9c73ac_story.html
and it isn't any less silly when JVG says it. it wasn't a few bad games, it was 13 bad games. all anyone claimed after the 0-8 preseason was that preseason doesn't matter, so the same people, JVG included, who are clamoring that they should have fired him after the preseason if they lacked faith in him would have been crying that the preseason doesn't matter and they should have given him a chance in the regular season.
