No way they give him a 6 year deal.... and no way even the biggest Jeter fan on the planet could justify giving him a 6 year deal. I love Jeter like all NYY fans do, but the guy should get a 2 year deal, maybe 3. He is clearly declining.
Jeter should get 4 years and some lifetime contract to represent the Yankees for the rest of his life Probably will get done...
Ty Cobb was very close to being a New York Yankee in 1913. The NY Times article below says he was sold to the Yankees for $40,000 but I bet the deal fell apart last second. Pretty cool stuff http://www.newspaperarchive.com/FreePdfViewer.aspx?img=5550859&firstvisit=true
Um, the main thrust of that article was that Jeter wanting a six-year deal is a highly implausible rumor. So, of course, you repeat the rumor as though it's fact. What gives?
I love reading stuff like this. What's even more interesting is the story on the right - fans waving their hats in the center field section trying to distract the Giants batters, and the ref gives the game to them. Fans nearly riot. Crazy.
Memories of 1996...Just came across this vid
Oh course it's a rumor although his agent seems to indicate they are going for the farm too. The fact Heyman is spouting it gives it slightly more credence. Maybe when 10 more internet slouches say it you will believe it. Oh and how many years does Arod have left? Do you really think he wants less? http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...eter-and-yankees-already-looking-problematic/
Um... of course his agent is going to say that. That's what agents are supposed to do, especially at the beginning. I highly, highly, highly doubt that Jeter is going to demand a six year contract. Heyman is a bit of a hack. In fact (again, in the article that you seemingly didn't read), Heyman has been accused of just being fed lines from agents and repeating those. Maybe he doesn't want less, but he's not dumb... he knows he's not going to get 6-7 more years. Apples and oranges. A-Rod was 32 at the time of his stupid contract, coming off an MVP season. Jeter is 36 and coming off the worst season of his career.
Wow, who said demand? I said he wants a 6 year deal. Heyman has only ever been accused of being Boras's mouthpiece, nobody else's. How old is Arod now and how many years does he have left?
You previously said: I'm sure he wants a twenty-year deal for $80 million per year. Hell, I want that deal. But what I want is irrelevant. I know I'm not going to get that, and that's all that matters. In Jeter's case, what he wants isn't the issue and isn't going to dictate whether or not a deal happens. It's going to be about what he thinks/knows he can get. And it's not a six-year deal. He knows that. Come on. If you're willing to be an agent's mouthpiece to get a scoop, you think that's exclusive to just the one agent? Heyman's a hack.
Actually, that's what I came in to talk about but of course I had to reply to Cappy's nonsense first. Too bad our illustrious GM gave in to that 4th year for Posada or we could be using that money for Crawford. Here's the full article from the Daily News. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...da_will_sli.html#ixzz14QFxa84l NY Daily New - NM..I see now that other article linked to this one anyway.
Well, then, what's your point? You said Jeter wants six years and should just retire, that he and his agent seem to be going for the farm, and implied that he wouldn't want fewer years than A-Rod has left on his contract. So if you agree that he's not likely to get what he allegedly wants as stated (and agree that he's smart enough not to demand it), then I'm not sure what your point is. This isn't news. OMG! A player's agent started negotiations asking for an above-value contract?! Stop the presses!! Give it a rest.
I light heartedly said he ought to just retire and save everybody the effort because it's not going to happen. Of course and as usual you need to blow it up into a major confrontation....you really need to take it easy on yourself.
A "major confrontation"? Now that's just funny. So you're claiming that you agree that Jeter isn't going to get six years, and that he isn't going to demand it. Okay. Well, Jeter knows that. His agent knows that. Almost everyone knows that. It doesn't matter what A-Rod got (which you brought up after that first comment). It doesn't matter what he agent seems to be pushing for (also brought up by you). That you made those additional statements, though, leads me to believe that you thought there was going to be a problem in the negotiations. I'm not so inclined to believe that you were just trying to be light-hearted (especially since that is certainly not the first adjective that comes to mind regarding your posts). Whatever, dude. Bottom line: Don't worry about the Jeter deal. It will get done. He'll be rather overpaid, but it's not likely to be a nasty, drawn out affair, despite Heyman's "rumor."
