I don't know. It's hard to expect that from any pitcher, you know? And it's not like Lee has been a guy who is never injured. He's had several issues with strained abdomen muscles, back issues, etc. I still think you pay him, and deal with it later. The Yanks have the ability to absorb a lot of money on the back end of deals. It does worry me a little bit that there's only so much they can absorb, and if things don't go well, they might be in a rough spot, with a 40-year-old A-Rod, a 37-year-old lee, a 35-year-old CC, and a 35-year-old Tex. That's a lot of money locked up in players who will likely be past (or well past) their peak production.
IMHO Lee is a must sign for the Yanks, with all the lefties on the Red Sux we really need another solid Lefty Started and Reliever. Imaging playing the Red Sux with Sabathia, Lee, and Petite.
I cannot believe what I am reading from Don. Shame on me for being surprised but this stuff is just extra great
Wins above replacement. It includes both offensive and (position dependent) defensive contributions. Here's what it incorporates if you're interested. (I'm guessing you're not, though. ) Link
Yeah, all you really need to know is that it tells you how many wins a player is likely to contribute to his team above and beyond the contributions of the typical AAAA chump. All of it is based on the how the basic stats (hits, HRs, walks, Ks, etc.) tend to correlate with a team winning a game.
Stats like that are easy to say straight forward, but can't rely on that. Beltre + V-Mart + Youk (as 1B) = 15.4 WAR Crawford + Gonzalez + Youk (as 3B) = 17 WAR Not to mention the difference between Ellsbury and Cameron will probably be about 2-3 games in 2011.
Yankees going hard after Russell Martin. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/40611123/ns/sports-player_news/ I hope the drop in offense is because of catching so much and an injury last year. Even so, the current Martin is better than Cervelli.
Could this just be the old Jedi Mind Trick by Ryan though? I think Ryan knows he has to outsmart the Yankees to resign Lee because he knows he can't outspend them. My honest opinion is if the offers are close he signs with Texas becuase you have to consider the lack of state tax as well as lower cost of living in Texas. Throw in a lot less pressure in Texas as you'll always be 2nd fiddle to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. I also think should Lee not go to Texas the Rangers will make the move to get Grienke. They have the minor league talent to make the deal and you'd have to think he'd wave the no trade clause to go there because the media scrutiny will be far less there then in New York.
 According to Don the backups to the backups need to be 5 time All Stars. The guys demoted to AAA needs to be 1st ballot HOF players.
If whichever team that doesn't get Lee gets Greinke, then I think Lee is better off in New York and Greinke in Texas.
I know this isn't Yankee related, but i've been working a lot and haven't been able to follow closely. I know Boston got Crawford and Gonzalez, but who leaves Boston now?
I didn't realize Martin was a free agent, I hope you guys don't get him. Even though he was having an off year, our season officially ended when he went out. The Dodgers' record with and without him over the years is pretty different.
