I'm surprised Fat Elvis didn't go back to Houston. St. Louis instead. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5884287
I can't believe people (not on this site) were worried about this. Local sports radio has been worse than usual cus of all the Jeter talk.
Yup, all the angst about Jeter is the reason that I've basically shut out baseball talk since the World Series ended. At the end of the day it was obvious that Jeter was gonna get overpaid, but that he was going to come back to the Yankees. And considering that the Yanks wanted him for 3 years at $45M, getting him for the contract that they did is pretty reasonable.
Another nice miss by Cashman..Boston gets Gonzales and Crawford and Yankees probably won't even get Lee..hopefully the next time that useless piece of shit decides to jump off a building he won't have a cord attached.
Crawford is not 140 mil better than Gardner. I was listening to someone from the baseball prospectus talk about how Gardner, among all outfielders, had the best defensive numbers and should have had the gold glove. If you read anything I wrote early last season, I hated Gardner and loved/wanted Crawford but after last season it wouldn't be worth it if Gardner can maintain those numbers. There's no denying that Boston has had a quick action and plentiful off-season... ...Just wait don...they were saying on the radio today that Nolan Ryan regrets letting the price for Lee become this high.
Were the Yankees ever seriously in the running for Crawford? I know they met with him an all, but I thought it was pretty clear that - barring a trade of some kind - the Yanks don't have room to add Crawford AND Lee... they weren't adding $45M to the payroll. So in that case, the best they could hope for was to drive up the price. Seeing as how Crawford got $20M+ over seven years, it seems like they did a decent enough job. That's crazy.
Nice, now Cashman is bidding against himself again just like he did with Sabathia. He upped the deal this morning to 7 years...what a piece of shit he is...next he will give Posada a new five year deal...that's his level of expertise. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5902103
I hate the fact Gardner is going to be our starting LF. I know hes had a high OBP but he was garbage the second half of the season .232 .364 .330 I peg him to stay at that rate. But I would not have had a problem trading him this offseason while his value was highest.
Well, as it turned out, he was injured for that second half of the season. Don't know if the surgery will correct that or not. And besides, high OBP is what you want from a guy like that. Even performing at a high level, that's where nearly all of his value lies.
http://twitter.com/Evan_P_Grant Will he say Lee signed? Or that they tried but can't meet his demands? Or is he going to shit all over Yankee fans again? EDIT: They called a conference to announce they made an offer. Seriously.
7 years for Lee... I usually try and support every move made, but I don't know if I can for his offer. The money is not the issue at all, but its the seven years that I have the issue with. That many years is rather long for a pitcher at his age. I know what he's all about, but still. Basically Boston's moves of getting Gonzalez and now Crawford will force Cashman to make sure he signs Lee.
I don't have as much of a problem with the 7 years because there are plenty of elite pitchers who have been very productive into their late-30s. A guy like Lee could be expected to pitch into his early 40s, not that I'd lock him up for that long of course.
