No just upset that they don't have a right fielder that they want, they don't have a left fielder, they don't have a DH, they don't have a 4th starter, they don't have a 5th starter bvut WAIT they do have a center fielder that can't hit lefties..get it yet?
Well, obviously wins aren't the best measure of a pitcher, but only talented ones get around 20 wins multiple times. Anyway, what you say is definitely fair enough and I was never disagreeing with you. The things we're each discussing are mutually exclusive. In the end, I think he still has the talent to be at least a mid-grade starter (and even a near ace) but he needs to "get right." That's why I think he's foolish to turn down a contract for a minor league stint with an open door back to the bigs. I guess he thinks he can immediately start for a non-competitor somewhere. In that case, I'll echo what was said previously "F him." He's welcome back by me, but if he leaves, I won't think about him again.
Damon is coming back...book it. I still think he'll wind up being the normal DH with Melky in left which I'm more then fine with. They could do much worse then a defensive outfield of Melky Granderson and Swisher. I don't care if they don't have the right fielder THEY want, Swisher is just fine. One of those last starter spots is going to Joba or Hughes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to bring in an injured project like Sheets.
They won a World Series with Swisher in right and Cabrera in center. They'll be fine with Swisher in right and Cabrera in left. It's the middle of December. This time last year they hadn't signed Teixeira or Pettitte yet. Take a chill pill, watch the World Series DVD, relax, and let the offseason play out.
I just hope there are enough sensible fans out there to realize that Hideki isn't the bad guy here, "bolting" for the Angels as the Daily News likes to put it. He didn't want to wait around for the Yankees to deal with the Damon situation to find out his fate, and rightfully so. After hearing about the 1 year, $6.5 million offer, the Yankees should have anted up the price right then and there, he's well worth the low price. I'm really upset that Hideki is gone. CashmanFAIL. I was upset that we lost Abreu to the Angels, but with the play of Swisher all last season, I got over it real quick. However, Matsui to the Angels, this one hurts. I heard Sheets is looking for $12 million.
Yanks dropped the ball on Matsui imo. There's uncertainty regarding Damon's situation and now we don't even have Matsui to fall back on (as a DH).
Haha, now I KNOW that you're just kidding. Good one. I'm guessing you're a Mets fan doing a spoiled/dumb Yankee fan schtick? Is it an attempt at sarcsam? Either way...carry on!
Yeah, but they don't want either of them. They have been trying to trade Swisher since the end of the season and gave up a ton to get Granderson to replace Cabrerra. Yeah, they may bring Damon back but there is no evidence they want to do that. They just may be forced to do it because there is nothing else left. There is a story on one of the sports pages today that they could have had Halladay for either Hughes OR Chamberlain and turned Toronto down..sounds so like Cashman. Here it is. http://bases.nbcsports.com/2009/12/so-was-it-a-bad-day-for-the-yankees-yesterday-or-not.html.php "Maybe. But if what people are saying this morning is true, the Yankees could have had Halladay if they would have offered up Joba or Hughes. They ended up being the sticking point, not Montero, who most people assumed was off limits. I like Hughes and Chamberlain long term, but if one of them represented the sticking point it was a surmountable sticking point."
I might be nuts, but I wouldn't be surprised if the yankees swooped in and signed Holliday, ala Tex last season.
