I'm not sold on Harden, who just didn't look very good even in the NL Central with the Cubs. If he can't be relied on for more than 5 innings an outing then I don't see the point...Ben Sheets is a guy who I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on though, presuming that he's healthy. I'd also say no to Johnson, we have enough guys taking ABs from the DH slot. Also, just in case anyone's curious, as of right now the Yankees have won as many games this November as the Jets, Giants, Knicks and Nets combined.
I wouldn't mind Sheets either, but I think the point of the article was getting the cheapest option with highest payoff. I'd probably skip on Harden, though the premise of the article is good. Completely agree. I'm tired of guys taking up roster spots who are only DHs. Giambi, Matsui, now people want to replace them with Nick Johnson? For that much, bring Matsui back for another year. Or Damon. That is scary, sickening, and sad.
Yeah him too. I see guys like that as harmless. They have quirks that irritate some people (not me, but whatever) but that doesn't invalidate their ability to participate. Half the damn site was hanging on pidgeon's every word for a good month before they realized what I was saying from his very first post. At least jetsrule and pleasewin attempt to talk about the teams and subject matter they involve themselves in, rather than just trying to be internet personalities.
•Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News spoke with a baseball executive who believes the Yankees will wind up with Aroldis Chapman. "My bet is that it'll come down to the Yankees and Red Sox, like it always does..." said the executive. "And I think the Yankees will get him. They can give him a big-league contract over five years for $20 million and they don't even feel that."
I assume people remember how I was always down on Swisher. Even I would have to say the Yankees would be insane to trade him. Who do you replace him with? The guy played right field at a level we haven't seen since O'Neil retired. He was goofy and couldn't make contact with RISP, but overall, his offensive numbers compared to Abreu's. There's no reason to trade him. Even if Nady comes back 100%, he's still not going to be a better ballplayer than Swisher. Something I was just thinking about though, how would you all feel about bringing in Vlad Guerrero as a DH? Obviously he's not the same fielder we have seen over the past decade, but he's definitely a defensive improvement over Matsui. This would give more flexibility to Girardi, where he could move Swisher to first to spell Teixeira, or spell Swisher with Vlad straight-up, with most days Vlad just batting DH. Then if you bring back Damon you can set up a rotation of Damon/Melky/Gardner in left and center, unless of course Jackson is ready. Pena is also an option to platoon in the OF, but I'd rather see him platoon the IF. Of course, if Holliday enters the conversation, all bets are off. Is there any word on whether they'll bring back Molina? Personally, I think they'd be better served by showcasing Cervelli, with the thinking that he's eventual trade-bait. Romero is the future if we don't get Mauer anyway, so Cervelli is best traded at as high-value as possible.
I can't remember where I saw it, but reportedly the Yankees are looking into bringing in Bengie Molina, the SF Giants FA catcher.
