That wasn't my assertion. Not all Met fans believe the same things, you know.

Anyway, the off-season isn't over...I'm not going to worry about the Phillies until I know what he have. The Yankees are probably done, but the Mets probably aren't--we're getting at least another starter, and according to Metsblog, there are some Manny rumblings. You never know. So why don't you antagonize us in March. Oops, I mean stimulate some baseball conversation.

Yes it was. You said that rotation makes you guys the best in baseball. That's not true. Even with Sheets AND Perez it's not true. Lineup wise if you get Manny I think even with the regression that Carlos Delgado will have, you still have a lineup that can wreak havoc on alot of teams pitching staffs in the NL. But I don't see Manny happening. I didn't see Petitte coming back either but Manny right now is still far-fetched until something concrete comes out and not rumblings. I'm not trying to antagonize. Truthfully I was bored and the Yankees boards are all talking about Torre's book. There's only so many ways I can say Torre's an asshole. So let's talk about the Mets and how they're imho dropping the ball this off-season when there are a ton of bargains at corner outfield and they couldve gotten Brad Penny at 5 mil and settled for Tim Redding at 2.5. That move sucks. I'll give you bullpen. K-rod and Putz for the investment put in were great deals. But your rotation needs help. Your lineup DEFINITELY needs help. And the Braves and Marlins are coming up in the world.

This is the quote you ridiculed. The only thing I said was that I disagree San Francisco's rotation was better. I don't think the Mets would have the best rotation in the majors, though it would be very good in this scenario.

And again, you're relying on the assumption that the Mets don't make any more changes (or at least very few), but don't know if that's true. I'm sorry that you're bored though. Maybe you could go play catch with your big brother or something.

Actually, he's nowhere near as bad offensively as I thought he was, but still he's old and a terrible defender. If we're going to put money into an offensive outfielder who is a shitty defender, make it Dunn (or Manny). Preferably Dunn.

Abreu is an awful defender but not as bad as Dunn. I think as a lefty he fits your lineup better because he can be slotted in the 2-hole.

I don't trust Abreu for the future, or even this season.

I must admit, I've never really seen Dunn play defense, but Abreu is AFRAID of walls. It's terrible to watch. I hate watching him in the OF. I loved it when he was a Philly, and when he was a Yankee, but from the point of a baseball fan, it's pathetic to watch.

Oh Abreu around the walls is the most frustrating experience ever. He sucks defensively. But Dunn is lost. At least Abreu has some range from right field to center and a decent arm. Dunn sucks. I just think on a one year incentive deal the Mets can do worse then sticking Abreu in left with Church in right and Beltran in center

One-year incentive-laden sounds nice, but does he do it? I doubt it.

Maybe if they wait long enough to where he has no choice.

^Olney's been reporting that Abreu is resigned to the fact that he might have waited too long and won't get the 3 years at 10 million per that Bradley and Ibanez got. The rumor is he's willing to take a 1 year deal and hit free agency. I might be randomly spitting out figures here but I could see a 1 year 6 million dollar base with incentives to take it to 10. Mets need a left fielder, especially since I believe the rumor was they might move Murphy to second because Luis Castillo is dead.

    I'd be all for that.

    Still, this team sucks.

On an unrelated note, my understanding is that Murphy may have shitty range for second base. Still an infinite number of times better than Castillo.

Abreu blows. His power is gone and his walks are way down the last couple years. I don't think 6-10m for a .750 OPS and awful defense is very good value for your money.

We don't need somebody who's old and past his prime and going to demand playing time no matter how much his production is off. We have that guy already in Castillo. No need to add a second washed up ego to this team.

If Church is healthy this year and Murphy plays as well as he did last year then we'll be fine.

If we need to get somebody then the time is at the deadline where bad teams will be dumping payroll at unprecedented levels. Lots of good younger players will be up for grabs, no need to clog things up with some guy well over 30 who has no arm and is afraid of the outfield wall.

Don't compare Abreu to Castillo. Abreu was an all-star last year and is still a productive all around hitter. Castillo is shitty any way you slice it. Your slicing shit.
All I'm saying is you guys aren't on the same par as the Phillies and either this team does SOMETHING or your playoff-less for the third straight year.

No, the Mets don't have to do SOMETHING that kind of reactionary thinking is what locks up Carl Pavano long term for retarded money.

What Omar needs to do is see how his team is going in the 1st half of the season and then make a move in what is going to be a very fluid and active trade market.

Church was the best hitter on the team before he got hurt. Let's see how he does 100% healthy and playing every day. Murphy looked like a solid player. If he falters then there will be guys available to trade for. The Mets have done the old washed up former all star in the corner outfield already. Moises Alou didn't work out too well and no reason to repeat that mistake with Abreu who is getting worse and worse every year and is a defensive liability.

And I don't know what All-Star game you were watching last year, Abru hasent been in one since 2005.

? At this point all it takes to lock up Abreu is a one year deal. So no long term locking up for retarded money is necessary.
For you to think this team assuming Ollie comes back can compete with the Phillies is a mistake. Your still a bat and arguably another arm away.

That's actually a very good point..... as alot of teams will be handing guys away in a game of the rich get richer and the poorer franchises rely even more on Yankee luxury tax money to stay afloat. The only problem is do the Mets have anything were they'd be able to steal away a quality young guy with what they have left in the bullpen. At this point I'd be all for trading away a guy like F-Mart obviously in a package deal if it landed us a guy like Kinsler or McClouth. I heard the Rangers were looking to move Michael Young.... can he play 2nd base?

Oh BTW ESPN is reporting Omar is in the Dominican Republic meeting with Pedro. 1 word.... WHY?

I may be in the minority on this that Abreu for 1 year wouldn't be a bad idea assuming he equals last seasons production. If they signed a guy to bat behind Reyes that hit nearly .300, drove in 100 runs had nearly 40 doubles and banged out a 20-20 season I'd be all for it for a year with a team option for a 2nd. Granted he only had 73 BBs last year but I'm looking at an offensive standpoint his numbers are pretty good. Lets just say he had 70 RBIs and hit .275 with 15 HRs that's still not bad for a guy hitting behind one of the best leadoff men in baseball. Plus I saw that the Mets had some astronomical record when Reyes scored in the 1st inning. 1 year and 6 million isn't a huge risk for the Mets and it could be reward.
