la russa's decisions tonight have been absolutely indefensible. anyone care to explain how you don't bring in pujols to pinch-hit in the 9th? You're down to your final out. he's your best hitter. there's nothing left. he should've been in there instead of hudson. then he got lucky because f-rod couldn't find the zone. HOW DO YOU NOT PINCH-HIT FOR ROWAND?
He should have been put in for anyone after Soriano, and after each batter it should have been more and more obvious. La Russa did it to screw the contenders of the NL, that is the only thought that would have been a reason for his silly decisions tonight
Thanks Tony!!! You da man!!! But seriously, there has to be something we don't know. I'm sure he'll have some answer, but he would be totally willing to put in Pujols, his own player. I'm sure he'll be asked that question in the postgame, but I can't think of a logical answer.
selig doing a bad job, followed by an awkward interview. selig had to %#&$ing read off a sheet. good lord, was it that much to remember? he then called Seattle "The Seattle Mariner", as in The Ancient Mariner, I suppose. Then the awkward interview, culminating with the airhead ignoring the fact that Ichiro is re-signing. He's not going to be a free agent, idiot.
that was the worst all star managing performance I have ever seen. the lineup was bad, the pitching decisions were bad, and then the 9th inning... gah with each hitter in the 9th, knowing pujols was lurking, I was trying to justify not bringing in pujols. "you know, he's a good hitter too, and maybe la russa is saving pujols to pinch hit for a lesser hitter." but then hudson came up, and I could not believe what I was seeing. Hudson staying in to hit? HUDSON?
http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20070710_ALA@NLA lol, look at the right. they're counting the stats as if they count towards the player's season. 2B - J Reyes (18) 3B - C Beltran (3) HR - A Soriano (16) RBI - K Griffey 2 (61); A Soriano 2 (35) SF - K Griffey (7) BASERUNNING SB - J Reyes (47); D Lee (4) get a clue
news coming in: pujols picked up all his gear and left for the clubhouse before the 9th. he was not on the bench in the 9th.
heh. First of all, I figured there had to be something beyond Tony's control. It was just too obvious. Second of all, Pujols is a fucking scumbag for doing that.
edit: yes, that's what espn said. the question is why he left. did he have a real reason? I can't believe he'd just quit on the team like that, because he knows they needed him. I imagine people will be asked questions over the next few days until we get an answer.
ok, this is confusing. the AP is reporting that Pujols was upset about not being used. But it was reported right after the game by ESPN that Pujols wasn't even on the bench. could la russa have told him he wouldn't be used?
