This slump that the team is in does not feel right. I had much more confidence in Herm in 2002 than I do Bowles now. My feeling is Todd Bowles is in over his head. I could go on and on about all the things Bowles has done or hasn't done that I do not approve of. I think Bowles should be fired with great speed. Will all of us be able to handle 27 more games of this idiot coaching the team? Because that's the way I see things. Mac isn't going to fire Bowles at the end of the season. He's going to give Bowles AT LEAST through 2017 to get things right. I think I already know what Bowles is all about and that's why I hope he gets fired immediately.
For the sake of instilling a bit of hope and possibility, yes this team was once 1-4 and 2-5 (and facing a tough 8th game against San Diego) and still made the playoffs. So sure, a reminder that it's possible this team can still get there at least. Without getting too deep into comparisons about the teams and situations, this sentiment is worth keeping in mind at least.
The overwhelmingly obvious difference is that before he got hurt Pennington was a (potential) franchise quarterback, and certainly in 2002 his play was at the elite level (I vividly remember all of the comparisons to Joe Montana at the time). Certainly no one thinks that Petty (or anyone else on the roster) can step in and play at that level, do they?
