Considering that Clemens was booed his first few starts after arriving from Toronto, he's probably expecting it.
Nah, he's fully expecting, as am I, that he will get a standing ovation when he hits the mound in the Bronx for the first time. Keep in mind, there are a lot of fans in those seats who didn't follow the Yankees before 96. (Again, this is not a shot at our guys here who are true Yankees fans, but too young to be fans earlier than the championship era.) There are a lot of bandwagon fans, I am the first to admit that. I can't stand them (although those ticket sales go to paying for this team, so I can't justifiably hate them.) The stand will be filled with people who hope the Rocket can somehow "save" this club. In reality, as it stands right now, we did exactly what Boston was going to do by signing him. Kept him out of our opponent's hands. We don't need Clemens. We need consistency in the pen, and at the plate. Our starting pitching is not the problem. They've pitched more than adequately the majority of games, we just blow leads when the pen comes in, or don't give the starters enough run support. He'll get cheered. But it will be mostly by people who have no clue what has been truly wrong so far. He had better bring his A game though. Those people will turn on him in a heartbeat.
