Santonio Holmes is going to be 30 next year and he's played about 8 games out of the last 23 and he's got a foot with multiple screws in it to repair a stress related fracture. I'd be really surprised if the Jets are thinking of him in terms beyond this season. He's very likely to be effectively retired this time next year, certainly within a year or two after that.
Whats amazing about all the young good players is that is a crossover with 2 gm's. The part that excites me the most is the cap space freedom the team will have after this year and we now have a gm that isnt going to use 12 picks to get 7 players. While it worked on a few occasions with Tanny...this constant moving up and giving away picks was a killer with depth on this team. With so many young studs on defense, a few tweaks in the secondary and you can call the defense good enough to compete for the superbowl. So now you concentrate on the offense....an offense that has very solid second receivers and just needs a stud. Possibly only 2 players away IF GENO is the man. Right now its looks like he could be but the list is long of first or second year players that looked like they had the "it" factor only to disappear. This team is so much closer than many think from being a constant contender year in and year out and if Geno is "it"...its even closer than that.
The great thing with the Jets though is that our D is becomming so strong again that we only need solid not spectacular QB play to be a playoff team. Regardless of our opinions of him we all hope Geno will be a franchise QB, but even if he isn't this team only needs B level play to be in it and I think the Genome can certainly deliver that.
Future Nice to see a thread about the quality of young players the Jets are putting on the field. They need another draft and a stud WR to start moving into the top echelon. Best young team in the league.
You think we are going to give up on a 16th overall pick a season and a half in? The Trich trade was an anomaly - I wouldnt hold your breath.
I wouldnt call him a rookie, but you also have to factor in the 4th rounder that we traded for Chris Ivory. So I would include Ivory in the 2013 draft class; Milliner, Richardson, Geno, Winters, Ivory and Bohanon -------- we're up to 11.
how would you guys feel lets say if we need to trade up to get a stud wr like sammy wakins lets say simialr situation like falcons and julio jones would you want to or no? i personally would want to because sammy wakings is a beast and can be a true #1 WR and lets say we sign a middle to high FA wr to be a #2 (assuming we cut holmes) #1 WR sammy wakins #2 FA someone like Nicks or Emanuel sanders idk #3 Stephen hill and kerly working slot i think that would be awesome i mean only needs i really see on this team now are S only one i say we keep Antonio Allen hes a beast maybe another corner for depth , maybe TE depending if you want to keep cumberland starting and wr i think were in a great position whatever we do
Falcons were 33-15 the three years before they got Jones. They've been 24-13 with him since then. I wouldn't have traded up for Jones. They didn't need him. He was a luxury that has not made the overall team better and now they are screwed to hell and back because the guy they traded up for is hurt and may never come back to play at the same level. Trade ups are for QB's and even then they're iffy. If Thomas Dimitroff gets fired in the next couple of seasons the Julio Jones trade up is likely going to be one of the biggest aggravating factors.
