I forgot who mentioned it in the game thread but someone posted that he had 1 or no carries after the TD... Fuckin amazing. It was an EXACT replay of the Oak game. The Running game worked and we continued to force other shit...
For a large portion of the game we were down 7 or 10 points. We abandoned the run way too early, became one dimensional, and as a result had no continuity on offense. The coaching yesterday was HORRENDOUS
Not only that, but this is at least the third time this year he flat out didnt have the team ready to play on Sunday (Oakland, Denver and SF). Of those three games, I give a pass for the denver game. But otoh, they didnt look so great against the Chiefs either, but were able to win on talent. He isnt a great coach, and the main issue that came to light last year, is the inability of this CS to use the talent they have to its best advantage. ten carries for TJ yesterday is the latest example of that.
How does a defense lose a game where your offense converts only one third down? Now I'm not excusing the defense, which played like crap yesterday, but your post makes the assumption that the Niners having the ball 2:1 on minutes is the defense's fault, and that's totally incorrect.
Well, the Jets did put together a solid drive to tie it, mixing the run and the pass well, in the second quarter. But your basic point about the D is on target.
To the coaching staffs defense, (tho I am very let down by them) we never once had the lead and their pass defense statistically has been much worse than their rush defense so naturally it makes sense to throw against them. BTW did mr. $80 million contract CB play for them today? I'm hoping he did after seeing Coles and Cotch get shut down all day.
Being down 1 score shouldn't change your offensive approach when there is still plenty of time left. If it does then you don't have enough moxy to be a coach at any level, let alone the NFL. Schotty is trying to outsmart people again instead of just going with what had been during the streak where we looked dominant.
Oh Alio, there you go again, injecting sensibility into another argument. Dont you know that 193 yards of total offense is sufficient to win? Remember how well the offense moved the ball after recovering the onside kick? And I just want to remind all the experts here who said last week that as long as the D stopped Gore, it would be a win for the Jets. Didnt work out that way, did it? but then again, we here on the message board dont get paid to figure out what to do to win- that is the CS's job. And as i read the board during the game, and looked at the scoreboard and it was still 14-14 deep in the third quarter, i thought, "giving up 14 points at this point in the game isnt terrible- we just need to score more."
Basically, as soon as we were down 14-7, they abandoned the run completely. We had a total of 3 runs in the second half, two of them were Jones for 9 and 17 yards, the second one a TD. It would take Mangini and Tanny's permission to make a lateral moves as OC of the Browns. I'd like to have Callahan as OC.
I just don't have the guts to do it, but what we need today is a "We are throwing games to save a draft pick" thread.
Maybe. That's something the Jets can't control though. The ref made a bad call. What they can control is the plays that get called and they should keep riding the horse that lead them to the top of the AFC East instead of trying to be deceptive.
We trailed 14-7 in the 3rd quarter, forced them to punt, and threw 4 times straight, leading to a punt. They tried to drive after that, Bowens intercepted, we ran the ball twice in a 4-play drive VERY successfully and tied it at 14 points. They drove down the field and scored a Field Goal. The score was 17-14. We got the ball back, threw it 4 straight times, and punted. Then they scored another TD, and we ran the ball once at the beginning of the following drive (Leon's only carry) and proceeded to pass every single down for the rest of the game. Seeing a pattern here? That whole 'we were trailing and couldn't run the ball' excuse is copout BULLSHIT.
