Can't sleep, so I re-watched all the Wilson and Lawrence passing plays at 25% speed with my stopwatch. (I know, lame.) A couple of observations about those passing plays: Formation: Wilson: 3/9 under center; 6/9 shotgun Lawrence: 2/11 under center, 9/11 shotgun Time to Throw (measured by me): Wilson: 9/9 plays < 3 seconds; average = 2.46 seconds Lawrence: 8/9 plays < 3 seconds; average = 2.53 seconds. This does not take into account the two passing plays on which he got sacked because he held on longer (3.12 seconds and 5.12 seconds before the sack). Lawrence's average is skewed downward by two designed quick passes in the flat, which were 1.07 seconds and 1.30 seconds TT. (Wilson didn't have any of those.) Take out those, and his average goes up to 2.91 seconds for the other 7 passes. Not that the quick flats don't count, but the number sheds light on how long it takes him to throw when he's not throwing a designed quick flat. By comparison, Darnold's TT in 2020 was 2.85. Of the NFL top 40 passing leaders in 2020, only two had an average Time to Throw under 2.5 seconds. That's not apples to apples -- those QBs spent more time under center, throwing downfield, and playing against the 1s, all of which affects your ability to get the ball off quickly. But the numbers are consistent with the general impression people have that Wilson was getting the ball off very quickly (even by NFL standards) and that while Lawrence did fine, he held it a bit longer (other than his two quick passes to the flat). Damn. Still not tired.
He looked fine and had a couple of nice throws and moved the chains on 3rd down. That one throw over the middle on 3rd down was an absolute missile. It looked easy for him which is a great sign. He left me wanting more and more that's for sure.. I was super bummed when they took him out
Watching the Jaguars offensive line makes me proud of the work JD did to protect his prize possession. It looks like Lawrence is going to have a looooooooong szn.
I thought he coaching staff did a great job showcasing Zach. If we had better tight end talent he would have looked even better.
Yeah, that's why I think - barring injury - Lawrence is going to do well in the long run. He handled pressure so much better than Darnold ever did. Yeah, I know, 1 PS game, but Darnold never looked like that. Still, I thought our guy looked better. Again, part of 1 PS game against the #2s. We'll see more revealed this week. I wonder if Zach will be extra jazzed to be on the same field with Rodgers?

I read that yesterday. Can't complain about how the coaches are tempering Wilson. If he bonks... it won't be because of shitty coaching.
I’m not too concerned about comparing “my guy”. As @IIMeanDeanII expressed he looked liked he belonged as did all the other QBs. That’s all that matters. On to next week’s challenge. With regards to Zach, I look forward to seeing how he performs against 1s.

Yeah, I meant to include that sentiment earlier. For all we know, every team that drafted QB is doing the same in their camp. You know San Francisco is.
Fields said the game was slower because of the looks he’s been getting in practice from his defense so who knows. Seems to me it’s something every team should be doing. I guess it’s better to read that than the alternative.

Yeah I read this earlier. Favorite part: “When he moves to throw, he’s tremendous,” Simms said. “I just went, ‘Damn, if I was him, I’d move every play.’ He seems like he doesn’t miss when he is on the move.”
And that was Darnold's strength too - although he's not nearly as good as Zach - so what did Bowles and Gase do (especially Gase)? Try to make him into a pocket passer, and shut down his ability to throw on the run! Genius! Gase being reduced to coaching HS football isn't nearly enough punishment for him. He should NEVER be allowed to coach, ever again, at any level.
