It doesn't make it disappear from future years caps. But its get spread out, sometimes over the span of four years. And we could be talking about a couple million dollars total spread out over a period of time. You can't just pretend that we would have had $12 million in one lump sum to spend in a random off season. That's not the real world.

We signed Fitz because Geno is an unknown commodity and if we lose the first four games our season is toast. There are a lot of players that are around 30 who want to win now. Fitz gives us the best option going forward. Macc knew this and it's why he made the offer.

Putting Fitz's name in the same sentence with Brady and Rodgers is nuts. They don't need upside. They're all-time greats. Fitz is all-time mediocre.

Fitz got what he wanted. Immediate money. I'm sure this was important to him in case he screwed up. Now he's got the best situation for himself going forward. He has an excellent year? He demands more money. He does moderately well and the Jets don't offer him immediately? Well other teams will see and he'll get money, or the Jets still won't have a better idea and shoot him another offer. He messes up? The money is in his pocket. I think this speaks loads on their confidence in Geno. I don't think they have any, I think it was bargaining chip. If this is the case they should move on especially if Hackenberg or Petty makes progress in training camp. In reality the players wanted Fitz. If they step up their game because of it, it will overshadow his deficiencies.
One further thing I wanted to add, if Fitz outperforms Osweiler, it will prove those big contracts were incredibly hasty going forward.
